First Week of School

Welcome back, Maeser Lions! We hope you’ve enjoyed your summer break and are ready to hit the ground running for another awesome year!

First Day Schedule + Uniforms

We will be on a special schedule for the First Day of School on Monday.

See you at 8:00am on Monday in your full dress uniforms!

Important Note About Uniforms

Both Dennis Uniforms and Lands’ End have informed us that many of their uniform items are back ordered. If your student does not have their complete uniform by the start of school, please have them wear as much of the uniform as possible. For example: your student can wear a white button down shirt and uniform-approved khaki or navy pants. TIP: You can buy cross ties and ties at the school in the front office!

REMINDER: Required In-Person Advisory This Friday

This coming Friday (August 18) is the first Advisory Friday of Quarter 1, which means all students are required to come to campus.

If your student is ill or otherwise unable to attend In-Person Advisory Friday, please call the front office (801-235-9000) to excuse their absence the same way you would for any other school day.

First Week Lunch Options

During the first week of school, the only day that a lunch items will be available for students to purchase is Tuesday. Sandwiches and chips will be available for $5. We are currently coordinating with other vendors for Wednesdays and Thursdays and will keep you updated as we go into the other weeks. Please remind your student to bring a lunch on days when they will not be purchasing a lunch.

Microwaves are available in the lunchroom for students who bring lunch from home. Please note: we do NOT have refrigerator facilities for student use.

Advisory Friday

Advisory Fridays have a new look this year!

Please take a moment to read through the new format with your student before school starts. You can access the full details here: Advisory Fridays Community Communication (2023-24)

IMPORTANT Carpool Information

Please review the carpool procedures before school starts:

A few friendly reminders:

A. There are 3 lanes for carpool:

  • Inside lane from the main entrance (off 1600 N) – This lane is for student drop off. Please pull all the way down to the Math building.
  • Outside lane from the main entrance (off 1600 N) – This lane is for students looking for a place to park. Please do not merge into this lane before you reach the math building. We want to help students get to class safely and quickly.
  • The back entrance (off 1200 W) – This is for both students and parents. Please use caution and patience.

B. Do not turn left when leaving the parking lot.

C. Please have your backpacks ready to go, and exit your vehicle quickly on the PASSENGER side. Because there are multiple lanes of traffic, it is dangerous for students to exit on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

D. Pay attention to Student Council’s instructions and only cross at the crosswalk

Carpool Connections

We have an amazing Carpool Coordinator who has created carpool Facebook groups for our school. Please find the group for your city here: Carpool Groups on Facebook.

Middle School Supply List

For both 7th and 8th graders, all classes

For your convenience, we have compiled an Amazon shopping list with all of the required items for your middle school student. For details and the link to the shopping list, click here: Middle School Supply List.

MS Shakespeare

Come join Middle School Shakespeare. Open to all students grade 7-9 (yup, Freshmen can be on the team). Come join our award winning Shakespeare team. This is an awesome experience that really builds community at Maeser. Not an actor? Great! We’ll give you a small role with no lines. Don’t know Shakespeare? Great! We do and can teach you.

Rehearsals are Fridays 1-3:30pm in the cafeteria. Our first rehearsal will be Friday, August 18 and all relevant information (including travel plans, cost, etc.) will be discussed.

Have Your 2023-24 Plans Changed?

If your plans for 2023-24 enrollment have changed and your student will not be attending Maeser Prep, please contact us ASAP to let us know by emailing us at registrar@maeserprep.org — please include your student’s name, their 2023-24 grade, and the school they will be attending next year. We are sending out record requests for our new students and want to help you avoid having your student’s school file sent to the wrong school. We are also creating schedules for next year and want to make sure students can get into the classes they’ve requested.

Thanks so much for your help in keeping our records up to date!

Practices for fall season start at the end of August and will go to early November. The season includes weekly games and one or two tournaments. For more information, e-mail ultimate.frisbee@maeserprep.org.

Fall 23-24 Sports Academic Eligibility

Eligibility for participation in fall sports/activities will be determined by 4th term grades. All students (middle and high school) must have earned a 2.7 GPA with no Fs. In addition, high school students cannot have any Fs/NGs/Incompletes from previous high school terms. All Fs/NGs must be made up by the last day of term.

All students, middle school and high school, who will be playing sports this year (2023-24) need a physical in order to play. Any physicals completed before March 10 of this year will not be accepted (per UHSAA policy) for the upcoming school year.

Counseling Announcements

Class Changes

If your student has any empty periods in their schedules, please ask them to come and see their counselor during that period. Do not miss classes to come and see us. You can also submit a schedule change until 12:00 noon on Friday, August 18th. We do not make changes after this date unless there is a legal or medical complication.

Counseling Donations

The Middle School Counseling team is in need of large bags of individual sized candy. You can use this towards your volunteer hours!

  • Kind: an assortment- chocolate, hard candy like jolly ranchers, tootsie pops or rolls, whatever comes in the assorted bags is fine. We would like some non-chocolate as well.
  • Amount: 4-5 bags/month

Can We Reach You In Case Of Emergency?

It’s important to keep your contact information up to date and opt-in to receive text messages from Maeser — in case of an emergency, this is how we notify parents! In addition, we use your contact information to notify you about important school events and school fees deadlines.

Here’s how to make sure you’re getting all of our important announcements and information:

Opt In For School Text Messages

Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts, student fees, and more. We will only use text messaging for urgent and important information.

You can participate in this service by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587.

You can also opt out of text messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.

Update Your Contact Information

If any of your contact information has changed – email address, mailing address, phone number – please let us know asap so we can be sure you’re getting school and teacher communications.

Thank you for helping us keep in contact with your family!
