Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences: This Friday, September 22
Please plan to join us this coming Friday, September 22 from 12-6pm for student led Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (no classes will be held on this day). We are piloting this new format based on feedback from parents for more effective collaboration.
- Students are expected to attend with their parent in order to collaborate more effectively.
- SPTs will be held on a first-come, first-served basis between 12-6pm; no appointments are necessary.
- If a student needs to make-up or remediate any work, please set up a time during the day of the 22nd to complete that.
Winterim Registration
Student requests for Winterim will take place Monday, September 25 through Wednesday, September 27 in high school Socratic classes. Preference will be given to seniors, then juniors, then sophomores, and finally freshmen — students should come prepared with a list of three Winterim options to request in case their first and/or second choices fill up. Winterim placements will be finalized the following week, after which students have until Friday, October 13 to make class changes with the counselors.
Please take a moment before Monday the 25th to review this year’s Winterim registration and fee payment dates and Winterim Catalogwith your students and discuss this year’s offerings and their associated fees.
If your student is planning to submit a proposal for an Independent Winterim this year, those proposals are due on or before Monday, September 25. Please review the Independent Winterim Guidelines with your student ASAP so s/he can start putting together a strong proposal. The Independent Winterim Committee will review proposals and return them to students for revisions if necessary; those revisions are due by Friday, September 29. Questions about Independent Winterim proposals? Contact Mr. Simmons.
Senior CCRs
SENIORS: Senior CCRs will end this Thursday, September 21! If you have not yet met with your counselor, set up your appointment ASAP at: Counseling Appointment Calendars.
Debate
After-school debate class/practice time for middle school and high school students has begun. Our meeting time is on Tuesday and Thursday between 3:40 pm to 4:40 pm. If you are still interested in joining us but have conflicts with other activities, it is okay to us for you to join any time during the school year! We are getting ready for high school interscholastic competition — our next competitions are coming up at the U of U (Beehive Bonanza) on the 10/06 and 10/7, and Rowland Hall (Young Lawyer) on the 10/13 and 10/14. Please let our coaches know if you are interested either in our classes or the tournaments: jonathan.harmon@maeserprep.org or janetwong98@gmail.com.
HS Math Team
The High School Math Team will begin its practices on Monday, September 25th, during lunch. We will meet in Mrs. Plott’s room (#302). The math team is open to any high school student (grades 9-12), regardless of math level. This is a great place to build your math skills and compete in a friendly environment. As always, there will be pizza. Middle School math team will start in October.
Model U.N.
It’s not too late to be part of Model United Nations. Contact Mrs. Smith: allison.smith@maeserprep.org.

Tell Me About: Attendance Procedures
Check-in/Late Arrival
You can excuse a late arrival by doing one of the following: on the day of the late check-in:
- A parent present to fill out and sign the check-in form
- A doctor’s statement
- A written/signed note from a parent stating the time you arrived at school (please include the student’s full name and a phone number where we can reach you if we have questions)
- A parent phone call to the front office at (801)235-9000
- An email to attendance@maeserprep.org with the student’s name in the subject line. Please include the student’s full name and time of arrival to school.
Check-out
Once a student arrives on school property, the student becomes the responsibility of the school. Any student who leaves the campus must be excused from the attendance office. For safety reasons, a parent, guardian, or those whom you have in your students’ check out information must come in to the office, present picture ID, and sign the check-out form in the main office.
Checking Out a Driving Student
If a parent wishes to check out their student, but the student will be driving him/herself off campus, parents must email the Attendance Secretary (attendance@maeserprep.org) and include the following information:
- Student name
- Time they need to be checked out
- Reason
Your email from the parent email address we have on file serves as your signature to check out your student.
Parents must also call the front desk close to the time when they are to be checked out so the front desk can call the student out of class at the proper time. For safety reasons, students cannot simply leave class at a certain time without being called out of class by the front office.
Students who will be driving themselves off campus after being checked out must sign out at the front desk before they leave. If they return to school, they must check back in at the front desk before returning to class.
Please note: for safety and liability reasons, in these cases we cannot excuse a student’s absence without an email ahead of time.
Excusing an All-Day Absence
Parents can excuse all day absences within 10 school days of the date of the absence, by calling the main office at (801)235-9000 or emailing attendance@maeserprep.org.
