Important Information About Class Schedules

NEW System for Making Schedule Changes

Over the years, we’ve received lots of feedback from you about the process of making schedule changes at the beginning of the year. Accordingly, in order to protect your time and our counselors’ time, we are implementing important changes in how schedule changes are handled. From now on, students and parents won’t have to wait in line to make changes, but will submit a “Class Change Request Form”. Counselors will not be meeting with students and parents to make schedule changes.

Here is the process:

  1. Fill out the Class Change Request Form and have it signed by a guardian.
  2. Pay the $10 non-refundable processing fee, either at the front desk or online. (Students get ONE free class change form.)
  3. Attach your receipt to this form. If this is your first (free) change, then you will receive a stamp from the front office.
  4. Submit the form to the front office.
  5. Counselors will process your request form and email you whether they were able to make the requested changes or not.

There are many factors that determine if a schedule change is possible, such as class size, individual schedule restrictions, classes that are only taught one period, and specialty classes. Submitting a Class Change Request Form does not guarantee that your requests can be accommodated, but we’ll try our best. Students are allowed one free class change form, and every additional form will require a $10 fee.

We realize this is a substantial change from how we’ve handled schedule changes in the past, but we’ve heard your concerns and feedback, and anticipate that this adjustment will work well.

School Counselors

Ms. Sorenson (sandra.sorenson@maeserprep.org) now works with all 7th-9th grade students.
Mrs. Anderson (krystal.anderson@maeserprep.org) now works with all 10th-12th grade students.

Accessing Your Student’s Class Schedule in PowerSchool

The PowerSchool parent and student portal will reopen for parents and students at 8am on Saturday, August 3 with 2019-20 schedule information. If your family is NEW to Maeser this year, you should receive an email TONIGHT (Friday, August 2) with your login information for PowerSchool. If you have other students who attended Maeser last year, any new siblings will be added to your existing parent account.

Lost Your PowerSchool Password?
Once the parent portal reopens on Saturday morning, you can reset your password by clicking on the “Forgot Your Password?” link on the PowerSchool login page and providing the email address associated with your PowerSchool account. It can sometimes take up to 15 minutes for your reset email to arrive (you may also want to check your Spam or Junk Mail folder in case it’s misdirected).

Important Deadline for Students Taking Concurrent Enrollment Classes

Students planning on taking a Concurrent Enrollment class during the 2019/20 school year (next year) should begin the enrollment and registration process with UVU now! Students who are not admitted to UVU and registered for their CE class through UVU by the Maeser add/drop deadline (Friday, August 30) will be removed from the class.

Go to www.uvu.edu/concurrent and follow the steps to start the admission process ASAP!

Activities/Sports Fees

Some activities/sports begin before school starts. Fees and deadlines will be communicated by teachers/coaches. For fee amounts, please refer to the 2019-2020 School Fee Schedule at maeserprep.org under Parents > School Fees > 2019-2020 School Fee Schedule.

Activities/Sports Eligibility for 1st Term 2019-2020

Do you plan on participating in a sport/activity during the 1st term of the 2019-2020 school year? If the answer is yes then your eligibility will be based on your 4th term grades. That is correct, the grades you earned during the 4th term of the 2018-2019 academic year will determine whether or not you can participate and this applies to all 8th-12th graders.

The standard is a 2.7 GPA with no Fs/NGs. An additional requirement for high school students is no Fs/NGs from any previous high school terms. If you do have an F/NG from a previous high school term, you have until August 16 to make up the F/NG. It is the respoonsibility of students to be aware of their individual grades and not the responsibility of the coaches and administration.

IMPORTANT Changes to UHSAA Sports Physical Policy

UHSAA has made some changes to their physical policy. Physicals that are completed between April 15-July 15 of any given year will be good until July 15 of the following year. If a student has their physical between the dates of July 16- April 14 it will also expire on July 15 of the following year. To make things consistent this will apply to all sports both non-UHSAA as well as middle school sports.

Here are some examples to clarify:

Physical Completed Expiration
December 10, 2018 July 15, 2019
February 20, 2019 July 15, 2019
April 20, 2019 July 15, 2020
June 6, 2019 July 15, 2020
January 15, 2020 July 15, 2020

In addition, sports physicals are required BEFORE tryouts/season practices at all levels (middle school AND high school). Athletes will not be permitted to tryout and/or practice unless/until the school has a current sports physical on file.
