Next Friday: In-Person Advisory & Trunk-or-Treat

Next Friday, October 27, is the first Advisory Friday of the term, which means all students are required to attend in person.

We use these in-person Advisory Fridays, which happen on the first Advisory Friday of each term, as a way for students to reflect on their academic progress, set goals for the upcoming term, and formulate specific tasks to help them be successful.

As with all Advisory Fridays, this week’s in-person Advisory Friday begins at 9am. Students will attend their Advisory classes from 9-10am and are then invited to participate in our annual Trunk-or-Treat. We will send out more information about Trunk-or-Treat next week.

Students may wear their costumes to Advisory. The uniform does not need to be worn if the student is in costume. Street clothes do not constitute a costume — if students are not in costume they must wear their Maeser uniform. Costumes must cover all parts of the body that the uniform covers and may not include weapons (even fake ones), gore, masks, or makeup that obscures the student’s identity.

If your student is ill or otherwise unable to attend this in-person Advisory Friday, please call the front office (801-235-9000) to excuse their absence the same way you would for any other school day.

Building Resilience: Contribution

There has been a lot of talk lately about students and resilience. In the book Building Resilience in Children and Teens, 7 C’s of Resilience are discussed. We’re taking the next 7 weeks to give you some tips to help your students with resilience.

This week let’s focus on Contribution.

This week’s content comes from https://optionb.org/advice/the-7-cs-of-resilience-in-kids.

It‘s powerful when children realize that the world is a better place because they’re in it. They gain a sense of purpose by seeing the importance of their contributions, and this can motivate them to take action to improve the world. They also learn that contributing feels good and is driven by a sense of commitment and responsibility, not pity. This may help kids feel more comfortable turning to others for assistance without feeling shame.

How parents can help:

  • Communicate to children (at appropriate age levels) that many people in the world don’t have as much money, freedom, and security as they need.
  • Teach the important value of serving others.
  • Model generosity with your time, energy, and resources.
  • Create opportunities for children to contribute in a specific way, like volunteering.

Can We Reach You In Case Of Emergency?

It’s important to keep your contact information up to date and opt-in to receive text messages from Maeser — in case of an emergency, this is how we notify parents! In addition, we use your contact information to notify you about important school events and school fees deadlines.

Here’s how to make sure you’re getting all of our important announcements and information:

Opt In For School Text Messages

Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts, student fees, and more. We will only use text messaging for urgent and important information.

You can participate in this service by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587.

You can also opt out of text messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.

Update Your Contact Information

If any of your contact information has changed – email address, mailing address, phone number – please let us know asap so we can be sure you’re getting school and teacher communications.

Thank you for helping us keep in contact with your family!
