Sports Announcements

Spring Sports Academic Eligibility

Eligibility for participation in spring activities/sports will be determined by 2nd and 3rd term grades. All students (middle and high school) must have earned a 2.7 GPA with no Fs. In addition, high school students cannot have any Fs/NGs/Incompletes from previous high school terms. All Fs/NGs must be made up by the last day of term.

Sports Physicals

All students, middle school and high school, who will be playing sports this year (2022-23) need a physical in order to play. Physicals completed on or after March 10, 2022 are good until July 15, 2023. Any physicals completed before March 10, 2022 will not be accepted (per UHSAA policy) for this school year.

Here is a link to the UHSAA form which Maeser uses for ALL athletes: UHSAA Physical Form

Counseling Announcements

8th Grade CCRs

It’s time to begin thinking about high school for your 8th grade student! All 8th grade students need to meet with Ms. Sorenson to discuss the classes they will be taking in 9th grade. This is called a College and Career Readiness Meeting (CCR). While parents are not required to attend, we encourage you to attend with your child. Meetings will begin on February 13 — make an appointment using this link to Ms. Sorenson’s calendar. Please work with your student while making an appointment so that you both know what time to arrive. And remember to add your student’s name to the appointment so Ms. Sorenson knows who she is meeting with.

Take a SELFIE

Even though February is the shortest month, it often feels like it is one of the longest. Our students often start to get discouraged and fall back into bad habits and often this is when depression becomes stronger. I would like to introduce you to The SELFIE Method (https://www.selfiemethod.org) and how it can help your student.

  1. Sleep- make sure your child is getting enough sleep. Teens need at least 8-9 hours of sleep a night. Make sure you have a bedtime routine and stick to it.
  2. Exercise- Physical activity releases endorphins promoting feelings of happiness and well-being. Plan something fun with your child each day. Find an indoor track and walk around it and chat about their day.
  3. Light- Sunlight exposure activates Vitamin D for bone, muscle, brain and immune system health. This is sometimes hard during the dark days of February when we are getting storms. Invest in a vitamin D lamp if you can’t find sunshine.
  4. Fun- Fun and relaxation lower stress chemicals and cool down an overheated brain. Play a board game or a card game or make up stories. Anything that will engage your student that they find fun. If this is a video game, make sure you set time limits and stick to them.
  5. Interaction- Social interaction releases oxytocin, a bonding hormone that fosters feelings of connection. Spend some time with your student just chatting about their day. Ask open ended questions such as: “What was your favorite part of the day and why? Did you find a way to serve someone today? What did you do? Tell me one thing you would do differently if you could redo today and what would you do instead?
  6. Eating right- Good nutrition provides vitamins and minerals for optimal physical functioning. Spend some time meal planning with your family and let your teen plan and cook one meal for your family. Not only will they learn valuable lessons on nutrition, but they will eat well and feel the pride of being able to feed your family.

Can We Reach You In Case Of Emergency?

It’s important to keep your contact information up to date and opt-in to receive text messages from Maeser — in case of an emergency, this is how we notify parents! In addition, we use your contact information to notify you about important school events and school fees deadlines.

Here’s how to make sure you’re getting all of our important announcements and information:

Opt In For School Text Messages

Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts, student fees, and more. We will only use text messaging for urgent and important information.

You can participate in this service by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587.

You can also opt out of text messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.

Update Your Contact Information

If any of your contact information has changed – email address, mailing address, phone number – please let us know asap so we can be sure you’re getting school and teacher communications.

Thank you for helping us keep in contact with your family!
