Maeser Prep Tops List of Best Public High Schools in Utah
In a news article released this week, Maeser Prep tops the list of best public high schools in Utah, using rankings from Niche that are based on factors including academics and grades, SAT/ACT scores, and survey responses from parents, students, and teachers. Middle School Spelling Bee Winners
Congratulations to the following middle school students who were the top three finishers of the school spelling bee that was held on Tuesday, January 18th. Also, a big thank you to Andi Howard who organized the competition!

Semester 2 Schedule Changes
Schedule change requests can be made starting now through January 28th at 1:00pm. The counselors will begin to work on the changes during winterim in the order they are submitted. All schedule changes will be handled online using the online Google form. The first schedule change form submission is free but all other submissions cost $10 (to be paid in the front office before the change will be made). Please understand that counselors will be busy with Winterim and other tasks during January. We will respond to emails but any and all changes must go through the schedule change request form. We will not make changes from an email request.

Please note that being thorough and entering requests and alternate requests is helpful; however, if a class is full, you will be placed on the waitlist. Waitlists do change daily. Please don’t send multiple emails asking about schedule changes, as this will slow the process down. We work in the order of receipt. Please note: we will do our very best to honor requests, but we can’t guarantee all requests will be available.

NEW Student Lottery Applications For 2022-23 Due By **February 1st**
Lottery applications for NEW students for the 2022-23 school year are NOW OPEN in our new online application/enrollment system!
To submit an application for a NEW student, click here to complete the Lottery Application. You can also access the lottery application by visiting our website (www.maeserprep.org) and clicking Admissions and then Submit An Application.
Applications must be received by February 1, 2022 to be included in the 2022-23 lottery. After that date, students will be added to the waitlist in the order their application is submitted.
Remember: DO NOT submit an online application for your CURRENT Maeser student — online applications are for NEW students only (that means new families & new incoming students of current families).
Because this is a brand new application/enrollment system, you will need to select “Create An Account”. (The application/enrollment system is different from your PowerSchool parent account.) You will continue to use the application/enrollment system account to submit additional applications for siblings (this year or in the future) and to enroll your student(s) if they receive an offer following our lottery. Please keep your login info handy.
If you have more than one NEW student applying for Maeser next year, you must submit a separate application for each new student.
REMEMBER: DO NOT submit an online application for your CURRENT Maeser student — online applications are for NEW students only.

Brighton Ski/Snowboard Program
The link to Brighton Ski/Snowboard for family and friends of Maeser is up! It is $175 for 5 Friday nights: Feb 25, Mar 4, 11, 18, 25, and includes a 2 hour group lesson and the ski pass for the rest of the night. Plan on being there at 4 pm because the classes leave at 4:30 sharp. You need to take care of gear rentals on your own. Season rentals may be a cost-effective option.

Yearbooks are currently $55 each (including tax). The price goes up in March — and we often sell out completely before the end of the school year. If you haven’t purchased your student’s yearbook yet, now is the perfect time! Email natalie.gerber@maeserprep.org with any questions.

Sports Announcements
Q3 Sports Academic Eligibility
Eligibility for participation in any sports/activities during the 3rd term will be based on 2nd term grades. Students (7th-12th) must have earned a 2.7 GPA with no Fs/NGs. In addition, high school students cannot have any Fs/NGs/Incompletes from previous high school terms. If the F/NG/Incomplete is made up by the beginning of the sports season they will be able to participate.
Sports Physicals
All students (middle school and high school) who will be playing sports this year need a physical in order to play. Here is a link to the UHSAA form which Maeser uses for ALL athletes: UHSAA Physical Form
Maeser Sports Guide

Free Practice ACT Test
We are working hard to support our families this school year with additional resources. Our friends at Revolution Prep are offering a practice SAT and ACT to all Karl G Maeser families. This is a great chance to get started on your testing plan, or if you have already started, it will provide additional practice. Taking practice tests under timed conditions is essential to being ready for the official test. A proctored practice exam will help your child build testing endurance and give a real-time snapshot of testing performance.

Opt In For School Text Messages
Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts, student fees, and more. We will only use text messaging for urgent and important information.
You can participate in this service by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587.
You can also opt out of text messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.
