We’re Excited To Welcome You Back!
We hope you are enjoying your summer break! We are well underway for our preparations for the upcoming school year, and want to let you know about some important changes and expectations. This information will hopefully help you to prepare for the start of school in just a couple of weeks!
Parent Handbook 21-22
Our Parent Handbook 21-22 has a wealth of information for parents who are getting our Maeser students ready to return to school! Inside the Parent Handbook, you’ll find information about the school schedule, tracking your student’s assignments and grades, finding a carpool, lunch options, Winterim, and more!
New Student Meet & Greet
Our New Student Meet & Greet will be held on Thursday, August 12th from 6-8pm at the school. All new students are encouraged to attend!
New School Schedule
We experimented and learned a lot this past year, and we’re excited to implement some of those positive experiences. This year we will be continuing Advisory Fridays. Regular, in-person classes will be held Monday-Thursday, from 8:00am-3:30pm for all students. Advisory Fridays will run from 9:00am-1:00pm.
Advisory Friday Expectations
Fridays will continue to be treated as an official school day for students to take tests, get individualized help from teachers, work in small groups, participate in mentoring activities, and do make-up work. Teachers may assign specific times for students to come to campus to take tests, quizzes, and labs. Additionally, teachers may use Google Classroom to assign and collect homework on Fridays. As much as possible, families should treat Fridays as they would any other school day.
Class Schedules Coming August 9th
Students will be able to see their class schedules in PowerSchool beginning August 9th. This allows administration, the counseling department, and teachers time to thoroughly review student schedules beforehand, which will minimize the number of schedule changes that need to occur.
Please DO NOT contact the counselors about schedules prior to August 9th. Student schedules aren’t created until late summer, so the counselors do not have this information to give out prior to August 9th. When schedules are ready, we’ll send out an email that will also include the procedure and form for schedule change requests.
If your student is new to Maeser this year, you will receive an email during the week of August 2-6 with your parent login information for PowerSchool.

We protect the privacy of our Maeser families in this group by screening requests to join using membership questions. Please be sure to answer the questions when you request to join, so we can maintain the security of our students! If you’re recommending the group to another Maeser parent, please send them the link to the group and remind them to answer the membership questions.
As our teachers start coming back this week, we are gathering school supply lists to share with parents who would like to take advantage of back to school sales! We’ll share that information via email and here in Maeser Updates as it becomes available.
7th & 8th Grade SOAR Binder Supplies
College and Career Awareness/SOAR is a required class for all students in 7th grade and new students in 8th grade. In this class, students will learn how to stay organized with the new work load of middle and high school classes. The SOAR binder is a key component of this system and is used by ALL students in 7th and 8th grades. Once it is assembled (in class with the teacher), it becomes their SOAR Binder and should be the only binder your 7th or 8th grade student needs.
To create their SOAR binder, all middle school students will need the following supplies:
- One 1.5″ heavy duty binder with View Cover
- Loose lined paper to go in binder
- One plastic tab with pockets for each individual class (Avery 8 tab Binder Pockets work well)
- Writing utensils—pens and pencils. Blue or Black ink only.
- Pencil Pouch that fits in binder rings – can contain individual pencil sharpener, stapler, one hole punch.
- 1 File folder for each individual class (For home file)
- A box or container for file folders (For home file)
- Red pen – For editing
Looking for a way to make an impact and get your volunteer hours at the same time? Donate supplies for one extra SOAR binder so we can help out students whose families may be struggling during these difficult times!
In addition to the SOAR binder required of all middle school students, students who are entering the 7th grade will also need one composition notebook, college ruled. We will be using this most days of the year so a heavy duty one is recommended.

Volunteer Help Needed!
The used uniform exchange is a parent-sponsored and run opportunity to allow parents to resell their students’ uniforms and for parents to purchase needed uniforms in good condition at a low cost. To Sell Uniforms
- Launder all uniform items. Make sure there are no holes, stains, or excessive wear on the clothing.
- On an envelope clearly indicate:
- Your name
- Article of clothing for sale
- Payment method (cash or Venmo account)
- The front office can not take items for the uniform exchange. Please drop off uniforms to be sold ONLY at the designated times.
**The uniform committee reserves the right to turn away any uniform items that are not in good condition or that do not meet the Uniform Code.
**At the end of the sale, YOU are responsible to pick up any unsold items. You will be required to show a picture ID to pick up your envelopes with money from sold items.
**Maeser WILL NOT be taking donations of unsold uniform items.
**If you are selling items at the Uniform Exchange you can pick up your envelopes with money in them AND your unsold items between 8 and 8:30 pm.
**The front desk CANNOT keep envelopes with money in them for pick up at a later time. If you do not pick up your money at the end of the sale, the money will be donated to Maeser’s Uniform Fund.

Have Your 2021-22 Plans Changed? Please Let Us Know ASAP!
If your plans for 2021-22 enrollment have changed and your student will not be attending Maeser Prep, please contact us ASAP to let us know by emailing us at email@example.com — please include your student’s name, their 2021-22 grade, and the school they will be attending next year. We are sending out record requests for our new students and want to help you avoid having your student’s school file sent to the wrong school. We are also creating schedules for next year and want to make sure students can get into the classes they’ve requested.

Sports Academic Eligibility
Eligibility for participation in any sports/activities during the 1st term of the 2021-2022 school year will be based on 4th term grades. Students (7th-12th) must earn a 2.7 GPA with no Fs/NGs. In addition, high school students cannot have any Fs/NGs/Incompletes from previous high school terms. If the F/NG/Incomplete is made up by the beginning of the sports season they will be able to participate.
All students (middle school and high school) who will be playing sports this year need a physical in order to play. Here is a link to the UHSAA form which Maeser uses for ALL athletes: UHSAA Physical Form
Fall Sports Guide

The Fall Sports Guide includes whether the team is boys, girls, or coed, if there is summer training, when tryouts are, who the coach is, and the coach’s contact information, if it is available.
Fall Sports Tryouts
MS Girls Volleyball Tryouts: Mon, Aug 2
Middle school girls, your tryouts begin Monday August 2nd from 2:00pm – 4:00pm in the Maeser Gym. If you have any questions please contact Coach Steinhorst at firstname.lastname@example.org.
HS Girls Volleyball Tryouts: Mon-Tues, Aug 2-3
High school girls volleyball tryouts are on Monday and Tuesday AUgust 2nd and 3rd from 9:00am – 12:00 noon in the Maeser Gym. If you have any questions please contact Coach Watabe at email@example.com.
HS Baseball Tryouts: Mon-Tues, Aug 2-3
High school baseball tryouts are Monday and Tuesday, August 2nd and 3rd from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at Rotary Park in American Fork (200 S 200 E). Players should dress appropriately including wearing a cup.
HS Boys Volleyball Tryouts: Wed-Thurs, Aug 4-5
High school boys volleyball are Wednesday and Thursday August 4th and 5th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Maeser Gym. If you have any questions please email Coach Call at firstname.lastname@example.org.
MS Boys Soccer Tryouts: Mon-Tues, Aug 9-10
Tryouts will be held on August 9th and 10th at 7:30 am on the Maeser Soccer Field. Bring water, running shoes, and cleats if you have them. Cleats are not required, please do not purchase a pair for tryouts. If you have any other questions contact Mz. (Coach Ure) at email@example.com.
