Maeser Updates On Break For Christmas

This is the last edition of 2020 for Maeser Updates! We’ll be on a break next week for Christmas and the next edition of Maeser Updates will be posted on Friday, January 1.

First Semester Parent Feedback

Please take a few minutes to provide us with your feedback about this first semester. Take the survey here: 2020-21 Maeser Parent Survey (1st Semester).

Winterim Term: January 4-21, 2021

Middle School Intensives (grades 7-8)

Middle School Intensives (MSI) are the middle school equivalent of Winterim.

MSI Packets & Schedules

MSI packets were distributed to students this week and sent by email yesterday. Check your email to see what section your child is in and download their information packet and permission slips. If you did not receive the email, you can contact us at info@maeserprep.org to request a copy. The last four pages of the packet are field trip permission forms and must be returned on your child’s first on campus day (January 4th or 5th). Also, don’t forget to fill out the electronic waiver form for the USAGW field trip (see announcement below).

7th & 8th Grade USAGW Field Trip Electronic Waiver

One of the field trips during Middle School Intensives (MSI) will be to the USA Gymnastics World in American Fork. The activities are geared towards all abilities and will consist of basic flexibility, obstacle courses, and other games. In order for your child to participate an electronic waiver must be completed by January 4th.

Go to the following website to create an account and fill out the waiver: https://app.iclasspro.com/portal/usagwaf/dashboard.

MSI: 8th Grade Sewing Class

Sewing Class Supplies

All 8th grade students will need to bring the following items to their first SEWING CLASS:

  • 2/3 yard of fleece fabric (60 inches wide) for making 2 hats (remnants are great and cheaper too)
  • 3 buttons – a two-hole, a four-hole, and a shank button

If you cannot bring an item, please talk to Mrs. Goodrich BEFORE the day of class.

If you would like to donate extra for other students, that would be great!

Volunteers Needed

If you would like to volunteer helping the 8th grade learn to use a sewing machine and complete a simple project, we would love your assistance. Contact Mrs. Goodrich for more information: marlene.goodrich@maeserprep.org.

Middle School Spelling Bee

The middle school will be sponsoring a spelling bee during MSI (Middle School Intensives). Click here for more information: 2021 Middle School Spelling Bee.

Winterim (grades 9-12)

Winterim Schedule (Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm)

The Winterim schedule this year will be the same as it has been in previous years (9am-2pm, Monday-Friday). Some specific Winterims may have slightly adjusted schedules and locations (please be on the lookout for information specific to your student’s Winterim from their teacher!), but most high school students will be at school everyday from 9-2. Winterim classes typically have fewer students in them, and we have rented additional space at various locations so that some of our larger Winterims will be meeting in these other locations to allow our students to spread out and follow physical distancing guidelines. We will continue to follow our protocols when it comes to attendance, cleaning, and COVID precautions.

Winterim Groups

Teachers will be communicating with their Winterim groups via email and Google Classroom. Students can see their Winterim class in the PowerSchool app. (The free PowerSchool app is available for iPhone and Android — our district code is PHPQ.)

Poetry Out Loud Competition

If your student has an interest in poetry recitation, please check out poetryoutloud.org. Our Maeser competition will be held in late January or early February. Please have your student contact Mrs. Martinez at pat.martinez@maeserprep.org. The state winner travels to Washington DC to compete for a $20,000 first place prize!

Deadline for NEW Student Lottery Applications for 2021-22

Lottery applications for NEW students for the 2021-22 school year are NOW OPEN! If you have more than one NEW student applying for Maeser next year, you must submit a separate application for each new student.

To submit an application for a NEW student, click here to complete the Lottery Application. You can also access the lottery application by visiting our website (www.maeserprep.org) and clicking Apply — be sure to choose the correct year (2021-2022).

Reporting Your Volunteer Hours/Donations

DON’T FORGET! Report your volunteer hours once you’ve dropped off your donation: Report Parent Service Hours. Each $5 spent for donations counts as one hour of volunteer service!

Sports Announcements

Sports/Academic Eligibility

Eligibility for winter sports (basketball, wrestling, swimming) and activities will now be based on 2nd term grades for all grade levels. If you are planning on playing a spring sport (boys soccer, boys tennis, track & field, middle school girls soccer, middle school boys volleyball) your eligibility will also be based on your 2nd term grades.

Students (7th-12th) must earn a 2.7 GPA with no Fs/NGs. In addition, high school students cannot have any Fs/NGs/Incompletes from previous high school terms. If the F/NG/Incomplete is made up by the beginning of the sports season they will be able to participate.

MS Boys Volleyball Tryouts

Maeser is starting a MS boys volleyball team and tryouts are Friday, January 8th from 7:00am – 8:30am and Saturday, January 9th from 9:00am – 11:00am. If you have any questions please contact Coach Call (darci.call@maeserprep.org).

COVID Testing for Winter Sports

The next round of COVID testing for winter sports will be on Monday, December 21st. Athletes who are not tested will not be able to participate in sports for two weeks. The testing times are:

900am Girls Basketball
9:45am Boys Basketball
10:45am Wrestling
11:00am Swimming
