Changes to Maeser Math Course Titles

In preparation for next year, we have reflected on your feedback and collaborated with our higher education partners. As a result, you will be seeing changes in some of the course names to better indicate course descriptions and communicate expectations.

In math, students who are interested in taking Calculus during their junior/senior year should take classes on the “Calculus-track”. Beginning in the fall of 2019-20, the following regular courses will have a “Calculus-track” option:

  • Math 1
  • Math 2
  • Math 3

Because of this shift, students better have the opportunity to align the classes they take with their educational and career goals. Students on the “Calculus-track” should expect to move through more material at a faster pace so they can study calculus and other college level topics prior to graduation. Students not on these tracks will have the same high expectations as their peers, the difference being the amount of material and pace at which the topics will be covered.

In coordination with this change, our 7th and 8th grade math classes will all be taught at an advanced level. When students enter 9th grade they can choose (together with their parents, academic counselor, and math teacher) if one of these tracks fits their abilities and educational goals.

2019-20 School Fee Schedule

Fee amounts and deadlines for next school year are now available at maeserprep.org under Parents > School Fees > 2019-2020 School Fee Schedule. Please contact the Finance Office at finance@maeserprep.org if you have any questions.

Activites/Sports Fees for Late Summer 2019 and Early Fall 2019

Some activities/sports begin before school starts. Fees and deadlines will be communicated by teachers/coaches. For fee amounts, please refer to the 2019-2020 School Fee Schedule at maeserprep.org under Parents > School Fees > 2019-2020 School Fee Schedule.

2019-20 Concurrent Enrollment Classes

Students planning on taking a Concurrent Enrollment class during the 2019/20 school year (next year) should begin the enrollment and registration process with UVU now! Go to www.uvu.edu/concurrent and follow the steps.

IMPORTANT Changes to UHSAA Sports Physical Policy

The UHSAA has made some changes to their physical policy. Physicals that are completed between April 15-July 15 of any given year will be good until July 15 of the following year. If a student has their physical between the dates of July 16- April 14 it will also expire on July 15 of the following year. To make things consistent this will apply to all sports both non-UHSAA as well as middle school sports.

Here are some examples to clarify:

Physical Completed Expiration
December 10, 2018 July 15, 2019
February 20, 2019 July 15, 2019
April 20, 2019 July 15, 2020
June 6, 2019 July 15, 2020
January 15, 2020 July 15, 2020

In addition, sports physicals are required BEFORE tryouts/season practices at all levels (middle school AND high school). Athletes will not be permitted to tryout and/or practice unless/until the school has a current sports physical on file.

Activities/Sports Eligibility for 1st Term 2019-2020

Do you plan on participating in a sport/activity during the 1st term of the 2019-2020 school year? If the answer is yes then your eligibility will be based on your 4th term grades THIS YEAR. That is correct, the grades you earn this term will determine whether or not you can participate and this applies to all current 7th-11th graders. The standard is a 2.7 GPA with no Fs/NGs. An additional requirement for high school students is no Fs/NGs from any previous high school terms. The good news: if you have an F/NG during any previous terms you will have the summer to make them up if needed.

Host Families Needed for Foreign Exchange Students

We still need host families for foreign exchange students who will be coming to Maeser this year! Foreign exchange students make a great contribution to our school, our community, and to your family. Students are carefully selected and screened, and they come with their own health insurance and spending money — all that is required from you is a bed, board and welcome. If your family is interested in hosting an exchange student this year, please call Wendy Waldes for more information: wendywaldes@gmail.com or 801-709-3583.
