Fee Policy Change for Sports & Activities

Starting with the 2018-19 school year, all sports and activity fees will be due BEFORE your student participates. We will no longer use the deposit/balance model we used last year for sports–everything will be due up front. This will most immediately affect those who plan to participate in fall sports (including those that start practicing in the summer) and the high school and middle school Shakespeare competitions.

Please plan accordingly so you have funds available to pay for these activities up front. (What a great time for students to get summer jobs!)

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENTS

HS Fall Sports Eligibility – Quarter 1

Academic eligibility for high school students wanting to play a fall sport will be based on grades from the 4th term of 2017-18. This includes students who are transferring to Maeser Prep. The minimum requirement is a 2.0 with no Fs/NGs.

ATTENTION: Sports & Activities Eligibility Policy Change Starting 2nd Term

There will be changes to the activities eligibility policy starting the 2nd term of the 2018-2019 school year. Student eligibility for extra-curricular activities/sports (including non-UHSAA sports/activities) will be contingent upon grades from the previous term. The minimum GPA will be a 2.7 with no Fs/NGs. Students will also be expected to maintain a 2.7 during the term that the sport/activity is taking place.

In addition to the 2.7 GPA, any students who have an NG or failing grade from any previous high school terms will not be eligible until that F or NG is made up. For example, if a junior failed a freshman course he/she will be required to make up this course before participation in extra-curricular activities. We recommend that any students who are affected by this use their summer to make-up these classes. If he/she has an NG those will not be able to be made up until August when the front office staff returns. If it is a failing grade that is the issue, contact one of our counselors who will be able to help.

Medical Physicals

All students (7th-12th grades) are required to have a physical completed before they can play a sport. Physicals are good for one year. If a student-athlete does not have one he/she will not be able to play. Please bring a copy of this form to your student’s physical exam for their doctor to fill out: UHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Form.

Online Registration for Fall High School Sports

High school students who participate in girls volleyball, girls soccer, girls tennis, boys golf, and cross-country must complete the online registration through Register My Athlete. However, please DO NOT start this until July 9th.The school is updating this site for Maeser Prep and it will not be ready until that time. If you have questions please contact Jared Norris at jared.norris@maeserprep.org.

Sports Information for NEW High School Students

If you are new to Maeser Prep and are will be in 10th-12th grade, OR will be in 9th grade but have tried out for a sport at another Utah high school, AND you want to play high school sports, please contact Jared Norris at jared.norris@maeserprep.org to discuss eligibility requirements. The UHSAA (Utah High School Activities Association) implemented new eligibility requirements last year that could possibly impact your participation at the varsity level.

Middle School Sports

Girls volleyball, boys soccer, and cross country are offered at Maeser Prep during the fall for 7th and 8th graders. If you are on the team, your elective will be the 4th period Middle School Sports class as this will be when your practices are held. Tryouts for girls volleyball and boys soccer will be held sometime during the week of August 13th (specific dates have not been set yet). There are no tryouts for cross country — please contact Jessica Kemper at jessica.kemper@maeserprep.org if you have questions about cross country.

Swimming

For 2018-19 the swimming team will hold practices in the morning at the Orem Fitness Center. Students interested in swimming will have the option of enrolling in a 1st period swimming class that will allow enough time for practices to occur. This class will be optional as some students might have an academic class that conflicts. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Burg (swimcoach@maeserprep.org) or Daisy Stonely (daisystonely@hotmail.com).
