LAST DAY to Purchase Yearbooks at Regular Price is TODAY!

TODAY, Friday, March 23, is the LAST DAY to purchase a yearbook at the regular $55 price! Beginning Saturday, March 24, yearbooks will increase to the $65 late-order price.

How do I purchase a yearbook for my student?

You can purchase a yearbook for your student online at: RevTrak Web Store (choose “Maeser Prep Yearbook”).

Can I still purchase a video yearbook and/or year-end supplement?

Absolutely! If you’re buying a yearbook on RevTrak, you can add a video yearbook DVD ($5) and/or the year-end supplement ($2) at the same time. If you’ve already purchased your student’s yearbook and didn’t add a video yearbook or year-end supplement during your initial purchase, you can order them at the front desk during office hours.

What if I’m not sure if I’ve already purchased a yearbook?

Please email info@maeserprep.org to ask them to check your student’s fees before ordering a yearbook through RevTrak.

CLOSING NIGHT! Once Upon a High School

Your favorite fairy-tale characters have their world turned upside down as they get a fresh taste of reality! When a portal is opened to another world, Cinderella’s stepsisters take the leap and find themselves in a very real high school and the Woodsman sets out to be the hero who brings them home; meanwhile, gloom and doom is becoming reality for the fairy-tale characters back home. As harsh reality seeps into the fairy tales, characters are forced to break free of their patterns and learn to take charge of their own destiny. You’ll love this complex, rich tapestry of enchanted fun woven with a poignant, meaningful thread about what it means to be alive and in control of your own destiny.

Maeser Community Read & Movie

As part of our classical education focus, we’d like to encourage our entire Maeser community to “learn continually” by joining us in reading A Wrinkle in Time during the month of March. We will be having a community book club night to discuss the principles of Truth, Honor, and Virtue found in the book on Wednesday, March 28th, at 6:30pm here at the school, followed up with a community movie night on Thursday, March 29th to watch the soon-to-be-released film (see the trailer here) at the Water Gardens movie theater. The Water Gardens has graciously agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds to the school from any Maeser families who see the movie anytime that day. Just say you’re there to see A Wrinkle in Time for Maeser!

If you need to purchase the book, this is the version we will be using. As an added bonus, if you purchase the book through Amazon’s “Smile” service, Amazon will donate a portion of the proceeds back to Maeser.

Galapagos Islands Winterim 2019

If you’d like to send your student to a living laboratory for biological and ecological research, consider signing them up for the Galapagos Winterim. We have partnered with Explorica to create a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If you’re interested, please contact Mrs. Slade or Mr. Kreitzer, or visit the web page at www.explorica.com/slade-7735. The tour fee includes all airfare, ground transportation, meals (except for those during the trip to and from South America), entrance fees, and lodging. The current tour fee is valid until March 29, 2018. After that date, costs may increase. Note that you may make payments over time to divide up the cost. There are also financial aid options available via Explorica.

Assessment Announcements

Quarter 3 is now in the books and quarter 4 starts on Monday! (Are you wondering where this school year has gone?? So are we!) The last quarter of the school year signals the start of State year-end testing with SAGE: the Student Assessment of Growth and Excellence. This year signals the end of the State’s contract with the SAGE test; beginning next year State year-end testing will have new vendors and some changes to which tests students are scheduled to take. We will send out next year’s testing information in early fall, when all of those new State contracts and calendars are finalized, but here’s a sneak peek:

  • Students in 7th and 8th grades will take the new State tests for English, Science, and Math that are being developed by new testing vendor Questar Assessment Inc.
  • Student in 9th and 10th grades will take the ACT Aspire 9 and ACT Aspire 10, an online pre-ACT test that replaces ACT’s Explore and Plan tests. These tests are aligned with ACT’s College Readiness Benchmarks and can help predict outcomes on the ACT.
  • Students in 11th grade will take the ACT with Writing, which is Utah’s College and Career Readiness test.

Year-end testing gives us a useful snapshot of where our students are at this point in the year in certain core areas. Our students have historically performed very well on these year-end tests, due to Maeser’s focus on providing “Core Plus” instruction that goes above and beyond what is required by the State’s core curriculum. We use our students’ test scores to help us inform and improve instruction. The State uses SAGE test scores as a major component of our school’s grade, which is published on the state’s Data Gateway website. We would appreciate your help in emphasizing to your student the importance of doing his or her best on their year-end tests to help us in these areas.

We appreciate all of the parent feedback we received after our SAGE testing day last year! We heard your concerns about student testing fatigue after such a long day of testing, and have made adjustments for this year’s SAGE administration. This year our school’s SAGE administration will take place on Thursday-Friday, May 3-4, from 8:00am to 12:30pm.

Only students who are scheduled to take SAGE tests this year should attend on May 3rd and 4th; students with no SAGE tests assigned or who have submitted Parental Exclusion forms should not be on campus that day. If your student finishes all of his or her assigned SAGE tests early, s/he may choose to read or work on homework or call home to be checked out early.

All students in grades 7, 8, 9, and 10, as well as seniors taking math or science classes with an associated SAGE exam, are scheduled to take SAGE tests. We will provide make-up opportunities for students who are unable to attend on May 3rd and 4th.

If you would prefer to opt your student out of SAGE testing this year, please complete, sign, and return the Parental Exclusion Form either by email (info@maeserprep.org) or at the front desk (Mon-Thurs 7:30am-4:00pm, Fri 7:30am-1:00pm) by Wednesday, May 2nd, to allow us time to mark your student correctly in the testing system and update their attendance for SAGE Testing Day.
