AMC 10/12 Contest (American Mathematics Competitions)

There are a few spots left for students interested in taking the AMC 10 or AMC 12 contest on February 7th. Please talk to Mrs. Plott (rochelle.plott@maeserprep.org) as soon as possible if you are interested in competing. Sweethearts Dance

High school students: come to the Sweethearts Dance on Saturday, February 17 from 8-11pm! Sweethearts is semi-formal and girls’ choice. Tickets are $20/couple or $15 stag and will be sold at the front office. Get all dressed up, show off your best self, and dance the night away!

HS Boys Soccer Tryouts

High school boys soccer tryouts will be held on Monday, February 26 from 3:30-5:00pm. All boys interested in tryout out for the team must register online at http://www.registermyathlete.com before tryouts. Any students in grades 10-12 who are new to Maeser this year need to talk with Mr. Norris about completing their transfer-of-eligibility paperwork. Any other questions can be directed to Coach Simmons.

Volunteer Help Needed for 11th Grade ACT Day

We need parent volunteers to help provide breakfast and snacks on Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00am for our Junior class, who will be taking the ACT at school. For more information and to sign up: Breakfast & Snacks for the ACT Test on February 27. Thank you!

Girls’ State

Attention: Junior Girls!
Are you up for a challenging week? The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program is a unique and exciting government-in-action program for high school junior girls.
When: June 4-9
Where: Weber State University, Ogden

8th Grade College and Career Meetings with Counselors

Parents of 8th Grade Students: Please schedule an appointment for your 8th grade student’s College and Career Readiness appointment. We encourage all parents to attend the meeting as we will be discussing high school requirements and requesting their 9th grade classes.

If your last name begins with A-J you will make an appointment with Mrs. Anderson and if your last name begins with K-Z you will make an appointment with Ms. Sorenson. Select the button under your counselor’s picture to schedule an appointment. **Please make sure you are in the correct time zone on your Google calendar so you don’t miss your appointment! All appointments are during school hours.**

UVU Strengthening Families Program

Utah Valley University will be offering a FREE 11 week Family Life Education program this summer on Tuesday evenings (5:30-8pm) and Thursday evenings (6-8:30pm.) The Strengthening Families Program is a research based program held one night a week and includes a dinner. The program teaches the following essential skills: family dinners, communication, bonding, positive discipline, problem solving, goal setting and achievement, anger management, and establishing family values. The summer program begins on May 19th and spots are filling up fast! Counseling Center FAQs

Who is my counselor?
Mrs. Anderson sees students whose last name begins with A-J.
Ms. Sorenson sees students whose last name begins with K-Z.

When are the counselors available?
Counseling center hours are 7:15am-3:45pm.

How do I make an appointment with a counselor?
Email the counselor and request an appointment Make sure you put “Need Appointment” in the subject line.

If it is an emergency and you need to speak with a counselor right away, call the Maeser front desk (801-235-9000) and a secretary will see if a counselor is available.

My counselor hasn’t answered my message…
Counselors answer email within two school days.

Can I leave a voicemail message for my counselor?
Counselors prefer email but in an emergency you may leave a voicemail. Realize that is may take longer than two school days for a reply to a voicemail, depending on the daily caseload of each counselor.

Monthly Scholarship Roundup

BYU Geology George H. Hansen Scholarship

Deadline: Thursday, February 15, 2018
Application: George H. Hansen Scholarship Application
Criteria:

  • Must be a graduating high school seniors
  • Must enroll as a geology or earth and space science education major
  • Must continue in one of these majors according to a progressive program
  • Must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA
  • Must abide by all BYU standards of conduct

UAIIA Scholarships

The Utah Association of Independent Insurance Agents (UAIIA) is offering a minimum of three scholarships ranging from $500 to $2000 in 2018 to Utah high school seniors who have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA and are active in extracurricular activities through their school, church, community or work. The scholarship application is available online at www.uaiia.org.

Unigo Monthly Scholarships

Unigo has a great roundup of scholarship programs and competitions on their website: Unigo Monthly Scholarships! Applicants must:

  • Be thirteen (13) years of age or older at the time of application
  • Be legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia
  • Be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2023) in an accrediated post-secondary institution of higher education
