2018-19 Re-enrollment Deadline: Friday, December 8

There is only one week left to complete your student’s re-enrollment for 2018-19! The deadline for completing your student’s re-enrollment to save their spot for next year is next Friday, December 8. Your student’s $50 re-enrollment deposit can be paid online but re-enrollment MUST be completed in person in the front office. Re-enrollment only takes a few minutes to check over your student’s current information and sign your “intent to re-enroll” form. Re-enroll your student today to reserve their spot for next year! Maeser HS Drama Presents: The Survivor

Teens in the Warsaw ghetto smuggled food, saved thousands of lives, and formed an armed resistance against the Nazis. One survived. Join Maeser’s high school drama students as they present The Survivor by Susan Nanus.

Holiday Orchestra & Choir Concerts: December 1 & 4

Don’t miss Maeser’s holiday concerts! We have fantastic music students who have been preparing all semester to help you ring in the holidays. For $1.00 each night, you can get some holiday spirit AND help us get our own auditorium! The orchestras perform on Friday, December 1 at 6:30pm, choirs on Monday, December 4 at 7:00pm. Both concerts will be in the Maeser gym.

1/2 Off Attendance School Make-Up Sessions December 12-15

During Finals Week (December 12-15) we will be holding extra sessions for Attendance School. Students can make up a total of 6 attendance points each day. Attendance School will start at 12:35 and end at 2:35. Students can come any time during that time. Students can eat lunch, study, or read during Attendance School.

As a Christmas gift, attendance make up will be 1/2 off during finals week (December 12-15)! The cost for each 20 minute attendance session is only $1.00!

Please encourage your students to get their NGs made up before the Christmas break. (Don’t know if your student has an NG? You can check that in PowerSchool! If you need help with your login information, please email info@maeserprep.org.)

Visual Art Gallery: December 12

You are invited to attend the Visual Art Gallery held on December 12 from 6-8pm. View student art in a variety of mediums including: photography, sculpture, film, painting, graphic design, and drawing. Film projects will screen in rooms 146, and 150 with all other artwork displayed on the lower level. Admission is free and all are invited to join us.

Middle School Intensives

Middle School Intensives (MSI) will run from Tuesday, January 2 to Friday, January 19. All middle school students will be receiving a schedule as well as field trip permission slips by Wednesday, December 6th. Students are to return permission slips to their English teacher by Thursday, December 14th.

Middle School Spelling Bee

We will be holding a middle school spelling bee during MSI on the following dates:

Classroom Spelling Bees: Tuesday, January 2 through Friday, January 5
School Spelling Bee: Tuesday, January 16 @ 10:45am in the gym

The top three winners in the classroom spelling bees will qualify for the school spelling bee. 1st and 2nd place school winners will then compete in the regional spelling bee on March 10, 2018. The winner of the county spelling bee will then compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

UAIIA Scholarships

The Utah Association of Independent Insurance Agents (UAIIA) is offering a minimum of three scholarships ranging from $500 to $2000 in 2018 to Utah high school seniors who have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA and are active in extracurricular activities through their school, church, community or work. The scholarship application is available online at www.uaiia.org.

Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation Scholarship

Open to any JUNIOR enrolling in college fall of 2019. Applications are due 5:00pm EASTERN time January 24, 2018. Applications found www.Coolidgescholars.org. The scholarship is a full-ride scholarship for 4 years of undergraduate study for tuition, room, board and expenses at any accredited U.S. college or university.

Unigo $10K Scholarship

“Surprise! You just got elected president. What’s your first tweet?” Submit an online written response of 140 characters or less, including spaces, and get entered to win a $10K Unigo scholarship. Applicants must:

  • Be thirteen (13) years of age or older at the time of application
  • Be legal residents of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia
  • Be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2023) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education

Tell Me About: Finals Week

Semester 1 final exams are coming up in just over a week! Here’s what you need to know:

Friday, December 8: Flex Day

We will be holding another Flex Day on Friday, December 8, from 8:00am to 12:30pm. No classes will be held on this day — this is your student’s chance to come in and meet with their teachers in the classes where they need a little extra help to be ready for finals.

Please plan plenty of time for your student to complete their needed work before 12:30pm! Flex Day will end promptly at 12:30pm so our teachers can participate in our Faculty Christmas party.

Monday, December 11: Review Day

Our Semester 1 review day is Monday, December 9. All regular classes will be held and Full Dress Uniforms are required as usual.

Tuesday-Friday, December 12-15: Final Exams

Final exams for Semester 1 will be held Tuesday-Friday, December 12-15. School hours during Finals are 8:00am to 12:30pm, with two periods per day — 8:00-10:00am and 10:30am-12:30pm, with a break from 10:00-10:30am. Your student should bring a snack for the break; lunch options are not offered on Finals days. Maeser uniforms are required during Finals Week.

  • Tuesday, December 12: 1st & 3rd periods
  • Wednesday, December 13: 2nd & 4th periods
  • Thursday, December 14: 5th & 7th periods
  • Friday, December 15: 6th & 8th periods

Regular attendance excusal and check-out procedures are still in place during Finals, so if your student will be coming in late or leaving early, be sure to follow our regular excusal/check-out procedures. (Questions about excusing absences? Email attendance@maeserprep.org.)

We do not allow students to take finals early. If your student has an unavoidable conflict and will miss a scheduled final, please make arrangements with your student’s teacher for your student to take the final during a period when they do not have a scheduled final or at a later date. (If your student needs to take a final late, they may receive an Incomplete grade until the final exam is made up.)
