Dancing with the Teachers: Thursday, April 13

Our NHS fundraiser, Dancing with the Teachers, will be on Thursday, April 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. All students are encouraged to talk with a teacher and join a dance team. Parents, siblings, and community are invited to attend. The cost is $3.00 for everyone, including dancers. All proceeds will go to the charity chosen that night.

HS Spring Musical: Much Ado About Nothing

The High School spring musical production, Much Ado About Nothing (yes, it’s a musical–set to 50’s music with fun dancing as well) is coming at the end of April.

PARENTS: Advertise in our Much Ado About Nothing playbill!
Regular price is $50 for a full-page ad and $30 for a half-page ad. Design of an ad would cost an extra $50 (companies are encouraged to create their own at 300 dpi). Parents of our awesome performers can also purchase a personalized Tweet-length message (140 characters, fun hashtags encouraged!) to put in the program. Email Michelle Linford (parent volunteer) for more information. (Also, if helping contact local companies is something you might want to do to help complete volunteer hours, please email Michelle.) Ads should be submitted by email to Ms. Gerber and paid for by April 5.

Utah Boys State

Any 11th grade boys who are interested in attending Boys State please contact Mr. Norris. Boys State will be held at Weber State University June 12-16. The cost is $375.

Winterim 2018: Christmas and New Year in Japan

If you are interested, please contact Mr. Watabe. This Winterim needs at least 15 to 20 students to make it happen.

Music Announcements

Congratulations to the Tour orchestra and choir, who each earned SILVER awards at our first-ever WorldStrides Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim this month! We had a wonderful tour and our students made us proud. A HUGE thanks to our terrific parent chaperones!

We are thrilled to announce that both Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra received SUPERIOR ratings at this week’s Region Large Ensemble Festival. Congratulations to these marvelous students who have worked tirelessly all year! Chamber Orchestra will go on to represent us at the State Orchestra Festival in May.

Auditions for 2017-18 music groups:
It’s that time of year! Auditions for next year’s high school choirs will begin after Spring Break. Mrs. Vincent would like to hear ALL high school singers, unless you have no experience and know you want to sign up for beginning choir.  Sign up for an audition time on music room door (#119). In a choir already? Auditions will be held during class. Students already in chamber choir need not re-audition.

Slight change to audition dates: During lunch April 10-13 and April 17-20; after school Thursday, April 20 (3:15-5:00) and Friday, April 21 (12:05-2:00 — later if needed). New students, can’t get to Maeser? Email a video of your student singing “Silent Night,” along with a short vitae (history of musical experience).

Instrumental auditions for students not already in orchestra: Contact Mrs. Vincent.

Audition requirements:

  • Singers will sing “Silent Night” and demonstrate music reading skills. Note: Do not stay away because you cannot read music! We just need to know our starting point.
  • Instrumental students will play a 3-octave major scale, an excerpt from a solo, and demonstrate sight reading skills.

Questions? New to Maeser next year? Send an email to Mrs Vincent.
