Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year

Welcome back, Lions — we are looking forward to seeing students again!

Student Orientation Week

We have updated our school calendar to reflect our new schedule for this school year. You can access this year’s updated calendar here: 2020-21 School Calendar.

  • Our first day of school for Group A (last names A-J) will be August 17th.
  • The first day for Group B (last names K-Z) will be August 18th.

We will be conducting Student Orientation in class the first day for each group. We are also preparing to send a virtual orientation to parents about our classes, so that you understand the expectations of in class and online days.

Friday Advisory Days

You will note from our calendar that Fridays are Advisory days. Fridays will be reserved for appointments with students who need additional help with students and for our (NEW!) testing center. To maximize time in class, we will be instituting a testing center on Fridays from 9-1 pm. More information will be given soon on this. This is different than our FLEX day schedules in the past so please make a note of it.

Stay Tuned…

We will be sending out new information through our Maeser Updates and on our Maeser Facebook page. Please make sure to check your emails often when you hear from the school. (See below for instructions on updating your contact information if it has changed and/or you’re not receiving our emails, calls, and texts.)

We are looking forward to a GREAT year, because WE are MAESER!

Fall Class Schedules & PowerSchool Access

The PowerSchool parent and student portals will re-open for the 2020-21 school year (with student schedules!) on Wednesday, August 5. Schedule Change information will be given at that time.

If your student is new to Maeser this year, you will receive an email before Wednesday with your parent login information for PowerSchool.

Class Supply Lists

Ready to take advantage of the back-to-school sales on school supplies? You can access the most up-to-date class supply lists here: 20-21 Class Supply Lists

NEW Pandemic Instructions for Front Office Visits

To ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, we have new procedures for visits to the front office, including:

  • Checking Students Out
  • Checking Students In
  • Item Drop-off
  • Visiting the School
  • Making Payments

Please take a moment ASAP to review our NEW Pandemic Instructions for Front Office Visits prior to coming in to the school.

We appreciate your help in keeping our Maeser community healthy and safe!

Help Us Stay In Touch!

Opt In For School Text Messages

Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts, student fees, and more. We will only use text messaging for urgent and important information.

You can participate in this service by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. You can also opt out of text messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.

Thank you for helping us keep in contact with your family!

Update Your Contact Information

If any of your contact information has changed – email address, mailing address, phone number – please let us know so we can stay in touch with your family.

Maeser Mural Design Contest

Students, would you like to design the next mural at Maeser Prep? Maeser is planning to add a mural on the wall, above the main bleachers, in the gym. Paint or draw your mural design ideas in color, and email them to Mrs. Fosse by August 24, 2020 to be considered. You can also email Mrs. Fosse with questions about the contest.

Host Families Needed for Foreign Exchange Students

We still need host families for foreign exchange students who will be coming to Maeser this year! Foreign exchange students make a great contribution to our school, our community, and to your family. Students are carefully selected and screened, and they come with their own health insurance and spending money — all that is required from you is a bed, board and welcome. If your family is interested in hosting an exchange student this year, please contact Wendy Waldes for more information: wendywaldes@gmail.com or 801-709-3583.

Sports Announcements

Sports/Academic Eligibility

Eligibility for fall sports/activities will be based on 4th term grades for all grade levels. Students must have passed all classes with no Fs/NGs. In addition, high school students cannot have any Fs/NGs/Incompletes from previous high school terms. When the 2nd term begins, the school will return to the original policy of eligibility being based on students earning a 2.7 GPA.

Sports Physicals at Maeser: Friday, August 7 from 2-5pm

Sports physicals are required for all athletes (7th-12th grades) and Maeser Prep will also be offering the opportunity to receive a physical from Dr. Gulbrandsen who has volunteered to administer them for the school. He will be here on Friday, August 7th from 2:00-5:00pm.

In order to minimize the amount of traffic at any given time we are asking that last names A-J come from 2:00-3:30 and K-Z from 3:30-5:00. We also ask that only Maeser students who are getting a physical come (no siblings) and only one parent. Masks are required.

Any abnormal finding will not be cleared and will need a follow up visit with their doctor to have the form completed. Anybody with a chronic medical problem or that takes a prescription medication shouldn’t come.

Only the UHSAA Physical Form will be accepted.

HS Girls Volleyball Tryouts

High school girls volleyball tryouts will be held on August 3rd and 4th from 9am to 12 noon. Practices will begin following tryouts, starting Wednesday (time TBD). Questions? Contact Coach Watabe at masasue.watabe@maeserprep.org.

MS Boys Soccer Tryouts

Tryouts for the middle school boys soccer team will be held on August 10th and 11th on the Maeser soccer field from 7:30-9:00am. Please bring running shoes, water, and cleats if you have them.

Ultimate Frisbee Fall 2020 Season

We’re excited to announce the upcoming Ultimate Frisbee Fall 2020 season. The season goes from September to mid-November. Practices will be held after school from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. All students of all grades are invited to play. Ultimate Frisbee is a fun, friendly, competitive, non-contact, co-ed sport. For more information, e-mail ultimate.frisbee@maeserprep.org.

Maeser School Uniform Policy and Dress Code

We encourage ALL parents and students to review our Uniform Policy and Dress Code to learn why we wear uniforms at Maeser and to understand the dress code.

Due to the current circumstances Maeser will not be accepting Used Uniform donations at this time. We will also not be holding the bi-annual Used Uniform Exchange in August. This year, we encourage you to find family, friends, or neighbors to exchange uniforms with. You may also exchange uniforms on our Facebook uniform exchange page: Karl G Maeser Student to Student Uniform Swap.

Questions about uniforms? Please contact Ana Wiersdorf: ana.wiersdorf@maeserprep.org.
