Flex Friday and Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences: Friday, September 28

In an effort to help relieve some student stress and give them an opportunity for additional help, there are no regular classes on Friday, September 28th. Instead, students are welcome to come to school that day from 8-12 to get additional help and retake tests/quizzes. This is not designed as a day for students to come and make-up all the work they have missed during the term, but rather to catch up on something they missed while they were sick, away at a sporting event, or something similar. Students must be in uniform on Flex Friday. Students not in uniform may not be on campus.

Additionally, Parent-Student-Teacher conferences will be held on Friday, September 28th, from 1pm-5pm. Feel free to come and talk briefly with teachers about your student’s academic performance. You may want to consider emailing the teacher ahead of time to set up an appointment.

Volunteer Help Needed

Want to get a jump-start on your family’s volunteer hours for this school year? We have some events coming up where we need volunteer help!

Food for Shakespeare Competition Trip Next Week

It’s time for the Shakespeare Competition again! We need help feeding 75 people. Food needs to be delivered to the school on Wednesday, September 26. For details on what we need and to sign up, please visit our SignUp Genius: Food Donations for Shakespeare.

Breakfast for Junior PSAT and Senior Scholarship Meeting: Wednesday, October 10

We would like to provide a breakfast for our junior class before they take the PSAT and for our senior class as they meet with the counselors to learn about scholarships. For more details and to sign up, please visit our SignUp Genius: Breakfast for Juniors and Seniors on October 10.

Contribute to our “Classics Bookshelf”

One of the ways we encourage students to read great literature at Maeser is with our “Classics Bookshelf”. Mr. Simmons keeps a bookshelf just outside his office stocked with some of the greatest literature available. Students can take books and get to keep them so they can annotate them and begin building their own classics library. Already this year, we’ve given away 60 books! Keeping the Classics Bookshelf stocked is a wonderful, but constant, challenge. If you’re looking for a creative and meaningful way to help our students — and get volunteer hours — why not donate some books for the Classics Bookshelf? We’re looking for new or gently used copies of classic literature. To make it easy, we have an Amazon “Maeser Classics Bookshelf” wish list, and if you sign up to support Maeser on Amazon Smile, Amazon will even donate a portion of your purchase directly to the school! Books can be left in the front office, addressed to Mr. Simmons.

Driver Education Class

There will be a driver education class offered at Maeser through Wright Driving School starting on Monday, October 22nd and ending on Friday, November 2nd. Cost is $230 and includes classroom instruction, driving and observations. Classroom instruction will run from 4:00-5:30. Checks or cash will be given to the Wright Driving instructor on the first day of class. The front office will not accept payments. Sign-up at the front desk. Contact Mr. Norris (jared.norris@maeserprep.org) if you have questions.

Sports Announcements

Wrestling Interest

The athletic department is looking into the possibility of adding a wrestling program at Maeser and we would like to assess the interest level among our students. Wrestling is a winter sport that starts in November and runs through February. The tournaments typically take place on Fridays and Saturdays. There would be a fee just like the other sports but we are not sure what it would be at this point.

If this is something your student would be interested in, please have them log into their school email and take this wrestling interest survey.

If you have a child at Maeser who already wrestles at their local neighborhood school please let Mr. Norris (jared.norris@maeserprep.org) know as adding this program would directly impact your child.

Wrestling Meeting

For students interested in wrestling there will be a meeting at lunch on Wednesday, September 26 in room 301. This meeting is a follow-up to the survey that was sent out last week and is to help administration gauge the interest level at our school.

Activities/Sports Eligibility for the 2nd Term

Students must earn a 2.7 GPA with no Fs/NGs for the 1st term in order to be eligible to participate in activities/sports at Maeser Prep during the 2nd term and must maintain this GPA during the 2nd term in order to remain eligible.

Activities/Sports Eligibiltiy for 3rd Term and Beyond

Students must earn a 2.7 GPA with no Fs/NGs for the 2nd term in order to be eligible to participate in activities sports during the 3rd term. In addition to this standard, any high school students who have NGs/Fs from any previous high school courses will be required to make up the F/NG before they are eligible to participate in activities/sports. Contact the counselors to learn more about options for making up these courses.
