Parent Handbook

Have Your 2026-27 Plans Changed?
If your plans for 2026-27 enrollment have changed and your student will not be attending Maeser Prep, please contact us ASAP to let us know by emailing us at registrar@maeserprep.org. Please include your student’s name, their 2026-27 grade, and the school they will be attending next year, so we can make sure your student’s school file is sent to the correct school.

Welcome Back, Maeser Students!
We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer filled with fun, rest, and new experiences. We are so excited to welcome you back for another incredible school year!
As we prepare for the first day of school on Monday, August 17, we encourage you to review all of the back-to-school information that has been shared. We have made a few important updates this year, including some changes to how Fridays will work and to our cell phone policy. Please be sure to check your email with the explanation from our Dean of Students, Mr. Simmons, so you know what to expect before school begins.
Be sure to join us for our Meet The Teachers Night on Thursday, August 13, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet your teachers, become familiar with your schedule, and start the year off on the right foot.

Meet The Teachers Night
All Maeser students and their parents are invited to attend our Meet The Teachers Night on Thursday, August 13th, from 6:00-7:30pm at the school. Uniforms are not required. Get to know your teachers, see the new classrooms, and tour our new Fine Arts Auditorium addition!
New Students Orientation Day: Friday, August 14
Friday, August 14th
9:00am-noon
All new students and their parents.
Please join us for our annual Maeser orientation, which is designed for all new students and their parents. After a brief introduction in the gym, students will receive their schedule and go to each of their classes on a shortened schedule. Parents will have a parent-specific orientation and FAQ session.
School uniforms: Students should wear their Standard Dress uniforms to orientation.
Friday School Update
Fridays continue to be school days, and students who are failing a class will be required to attend classes in person. While the general hours and structure of Friday School will stay the same as last year, we have adjusted the schedule on Fridays to follow an “A”/”B” format as follows:
A-day Friday:
1st Period 9:00-9:45
3rd Period 9:50-10:30
5th Period 10:35-11:15
7th Period 11:20-12:00pm
B-day Friday:
2nd Period 9:00-9:45
4th Period 9:50-10:30
6th Period 10:35-11:15
8th Period 11:20-12:00pm
Fridays will be used exclusively for remediation, reteaching, and other targeted efforts that will help students stay on track academically. Students who are passing their classes may attend Friday School in person if they so choose in order to get additional support, but they are not required to come to campus.
Students who are not on campus will need to check their respective Google Classrooms to submit their attendance online.

Cell Phone Policy Update
Maeser takes seriously the stewardship that you have placed in us to educate your child, and cell phones and other electronic devices are often detrimental to that education. We appreciate the feedback that we’ve received from many parents, students, and teachers about this important topic.
Overview of Changes
Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, students will not be allowed to use their personal electronic devices during classroom hours. Each classroom is equipped with a cellphone holder, and students will be instructed to turn off their phones and place them in these holders. During classroom hours, students may not access their phones. Students will have access to their phones before school, during passing periods, lunch, and after school. This has actually been Maeser’s policy for the past few years, but will be more strictly enforced.

Special Circumstances
There may be limited, special circumstances when a student is allowed to use their cellphone during class (e.g., a documented medical need that requires monitoring with a cell phone). These circumstances must be documented in the student’s IEP or 504. Obviously, if there was a school-wide emergency, students would be allowed access to their phones.
Parents who need to contact their student during classroom hours may call the front office, who will facilitate communication.
Consequences
If a student uses their phone during classroom hours (including in the hallways or bathrooms), it will be confiscated by their teacher and turned into Administration or the Front Office, and the student will receive a violation. Students or parents can retrieve a confiscated device at the end of the day from the Front Office.
The following consequences exist for students who repeatedly break this policy:
- 3 violations: Parents will be notified.
- 5 violations: Student will serve a one-day suspension from school.
- 10 violations: Student will attend an Expulsionary hearing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do students store their phones?
Each classroom has a cellphone holder. At the beginning of each class period, students are expected to turn off their phone and put it in the cellphone holder.
What happens if my student uses their phone during classroom time?
Their phone will be confiscated and turned into Administration or the Front Office. They will also receive a violation form. Students or parents can retrieve their phones at the end of the day in the Front Office.
What if a student needs to use a cell phone to complete an assignment?
All classrooms have Chromebooks that can be used for completing and submitting assignments. Teachers should not be assigning homework that requires the use of a cell phone during classroom time. Students are welcome to use their personal electronic devices to complete schoolwork outside of normal classroom hours (i.e., a student can use a cell phone to complete assignments at home).
What if my student has a medical condition that is monitored on their phone?
Documented medical conditions that require monitoring by a cell phone can be approved by Administration.
I often text my student throughout the day to check on them or let them know about family plans. How can I do this if they cannot use their phone?
Students have access to their phone during passing periods, lunch, and before and after school, so they will be able to respond to messages during those times. If they need to contact you during classroom hours, they can use the phone in the Front Office. If you need to contact your student during classroom hours, you can call the Front Office and they can facilitate communication.
Uniforms
New Uniform Logo Timeline
Earlier this year we excitedly introduced a new school logo. This updated school logo will be on all newly purchased school uniforms. We recognize that uniforms represent a significant investment for families, so we will be slowly phasing out school uniforms with the old logo according to the following timeline:
- Middle school uniforms, including cardigans, must have the new logo by the beginning of the 2027-28 school year.
- High school uniforms, including blazers, must have the new logo by the beginning of the 2029-30 school year.
To avoid confusion and help with the transition to the updated school uniform, effective immediately we will no longer allow middle school uniforms with the old logo to be sold at Maeser’s Used Uniform sales. High school uniforms with the old logo will continue to be sold at the Used Uniform sales for this year only.
The uniform plays a significant role in a Maeser education, serving to remind students of the seriousness of their education and to unite our community in this important endeavor. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the front office or Administration.

Used Uniform Sale on Monday, August 3 – High School Uniforms ONLY
When: Monday, August 3rd from 7:00-8:30pm
Where: Maeser
Due to the phase-out of the old logo, our fall used uniform sale will be for high school uniforms only.
This sale is an opportunity for parents to sell their old uniforms, and for parents to purchase needed uniforms in good condition at a low cost.
Please bring your used uniforms to sell!
To sell items:
Drop off labeled items (envelope safety pinned to item, labeled with Name, Phone, Venmo QR code, Description, Price) that have been laundered along with the Parent Waiver Form (available at drop off) on Monday, August 3rd from 9:00am-12:00pm. All unsold items need to be picked up within 30 minutes of the close of the sale. Any money or clothing not picked up by 9:00pm will be considered a donation to the school.
The used uniform sale is mostly CASH ONLY — bring lots of $1 and $5. If parents who are selling items would like to use Venmo, write your Venmo Username (with QR code & last 4 digits of phone) on your envelopes.

26-27 Class Schedules
Schedule Changes
Student schedules will be available in PowerSchool on Friday, August 7th and a schedule change request form will be sent out by email that morning. Schedule changes will only be accepted through the Google form.
PowerSchool Access
The PowerSchool student and parent portal will reopen on Friday, August 7th at 10:00am, for access to student schedules. If your family is new to Maeser, you will be receiving an email August 5th-6th with your login information.

Sports Announcements
HS Boys Volleyball Tryouts
Tryouts for HS boys volleyball will be held August 5th, 6th & 7th from 7-8pm in the Maeser Gym. Be prepared to attend all 3 days. Contact Coach Call if you have any questions: darci.call@maeserprep.org.
MS Boys Soccer Tryouts
MS boys soccer tryouts (7th & 8th grade) will be held Thursday, August 20 from 4:00-5:30pm and Friday, August 21 from 7:15-8:30am on the Maeser field. Please arrive a few minutes early to check in and do your best to attend both days. For additional information about tryouts and the season, please contact Coach Riss: danielle.riss@maeserprep.org.
Sports Physicals
All students, middle school and high school, who will be playing sports during the 2026-2027 school year need a physical in order to try-out. Physicals completed on or after March 10, 2026 will be good until July 15, 2027. Physicals completed before March 10, 2026 are good until July 15, 2026. 2026-27 1st Term Sports Academic Eligibility
9th-12th Graders
Eligibility for activities/sports during the 1st term of the 2026-27 school year for 9th-12th graders will be based on 4th term grades. Students must have earned a GPA of 2.7 with no Fs/NGs. In addition, 10th-12th graders must be on track for graduation.
7th-8th Graders
Eligibility for activities/sports during the 1st term of the 2026-27 school year for 7th and 8th graders will be based on 4th term grades. Students must earn a GPA of 2.7 with no Fs/NGs.
Counseling Announcements
Counseling Donations Needed
The School Counseling Team needs donations of large bags of individually wrapped candy. Donations can count toward volunteer hours! Candy Details:
- Type: An assortment, including chocolate, hard candies (like Jolly Ranchers), Tootsie Pops or Rolls, and other assorted bags. Please include some non-chocolate options as well.
- Quantity: 4–5 bags per month.
Maeser Board Business
Meeting Schedule & Location
Our meeting schedule has changed to the second Wednesday of each month instead of the second Tuesday. The time of 7:00pm will remain the same. We will continue to meet in the Maeser Library as well as provide an online meeting link. Have questions? Email samantha.stonely@maeserprep.org.
Can We Reach You In Case Of Emergency?
It’s important to keep your contact information up to date and opt-in to receive text messages from Maeser — in case of an emergency, this is how we notify parents! In addition, we use your contact information to notify you about important school events and school fees deadlines. Here’s how to make sure you’re getting all of our important announcements and information:
Opt In For School Text Messages
Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts, student fees, and more. We will only use text messaging for urgent and important information. You can participate in this service by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. You can also opt out of text messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.
