Maeser Culture

Winterim

Winterim is an immersive, three-week intensive learning seminar that brings learning to life through hands-on experiences and creative projects.

  • Teacher-Led Courses: Maeser teachers design unique, deep-dive courses across the sciences, humanities, and arts that are academically rigorous, explore college and career readiness, and/or are service/humanitarian oriented.

  • Independent Projects: Students may pursue faculty-guided service, career-related experiences, or personal interests.

  • Real-World Application: Experiences range from local service projects and creative workshops to national and international travel (e.g., exploring marine ecosystems or studying history on-site).

This program builds confidence, sparks curiosity, and helps students develop a lifelong love of learning by applying knowledge in real-world settings.

Middle School Intensive (MSI)

Middle School Intensives are a three week exploration of a variety of classes that must meet at least two of the following objectives:
  • Intensive hands on/active learning

  • Academically rigorous/expands student’s academic knowledge

  • Serves as a humanitarian service opportunity

  • College and career exploration

Capstone Projects

The Senior Capstone is the culminating experience of a Maeser education that requires students to apply the skills and knowledge they’ve gained to address a real need or cause.  Each Capstone project reflects a commitment to service, gratitude, and leadership. Under the guidance of faculty mentors, seniors research, plan, and execute initiatives that give back to the school or the broader world—from leading service projects and mentoring younger students to partnering with local or global organizations. The Capstone allows students to embody our core values as they use their education to make a meaningful difference.

Uniforms

At Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy, we believe that a uniform dress code fosters a sense of belonging and community among our students. Our uniforms are designed to reflect our values and pride in our school. Please refer to our policies to ensure students are dressed appropriately for school activities. Your cooperation helps maintain our culture and contributes to a focused learning environment.

Broadway Rocks

Broadway Rocks is one of Maeser’s most beloved annual traditions—a high-energy, student-powered Broadway showcase open to every student in the school. Over a fast-paced, immersive 48-hour weekend, Maeser students take the director’s chair as they guide, choreograph, and perform their assigned Broadway numbers. Every group is led by its own creative team, and all are encouraged to participate—whether they’re seasoned performers or stepping onstage for the very first time—making Broadway Rocks one of the most inclusive and inspiring events of the year.

Last Lectures

The Last Lecture is a cherished tradition where the graduating class imparts its final words of wisdom. Weeks before graduation, seniors craft individual lectures—culminating pieces of writing that reflect their experiences and lessons learned. The program is managed by faculty who run writing workshops and brainstorming sessions to guide the class. A panel of faculty judges evaluates all submissions. The ten highest-scoring lectures are selected to be presented at an all-school assembly. While a winner is recognized, all selected lectures (and sometimes more) are professionally printed for the entire Maeser community to read.
