Why Choose Maeser?

VERITAS.     HONOR.     VIRTUS.

Our Mission

Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy empowers and inspires students to learn continually, think critically, and communicate effectively through Socratic methods in order to better themselves and their community.

Embracing Our Legacy

With a legacy rooted in quality education and community engagement, we guide students to become thoughtful leaders. Our programs are designed to support students not just academically, but also personally, in a nurturing environment.

Connecting Through Values

Our values are centered around integrity, respect, and collaboration. By instilling these principles, we help our students grow into individuals who not only excel in their studies but also contribute positively to their communities.

Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy serves grades 7–12. The largest number of openings typically occur in 7th grade, when a new class is formed. Openings in other grades vary from year to year, depending on current enrollment.

Yes. Maeser students wear uniforms as part of our commitment to creating a focused and respectful learning environment. Uniforms help eliminate distractions, promote unity, and reflect the school’s values of Truth, Honor, and Virtue. Families can find the full uniform guidelines and approved vendors on our website under the Parents section.

We follow a classical, liberal arts curriculum with Socratic teaching, small class sizes, and a focus on character education.

Maeser is a public charter school and there is no tuition to attend. Like other public schools, fees may be charged for specific programs such as Winterim and extracurricular activities. Our fee schedule can be found on our website.

  • Students who are not selected during the lottery are automatically placed on the waitlist in the order their application was received. Families will be contacted by email if a seat becomes available.
  • The waitlist does not carry over from year to year, so a new application must be submitted each enrollment cycle.

Maeser is a public charter school open to all Utah students. Maeser’s charter requires that admission be determined through a lottery system.

Why Maeser?

Classical, Liberal Arts Education

A rigorous curriculum built on the Great Ideas of the Western tradition and the Socratic method trains students to think critically, write clearly, and engage with enduring questions that shape an educated life.

Inspiring Teachers & Mentors

Our faculty are scholars and guides who love their subjects and their students. They lead by example—fostering curiosity, dialogue, and a lifelong love of learning.

Character & Leadership

Truth, Honor, and Virtue are woven into every class, activity, and decision. Students learn not only how to succeed academically but how to lead with integrity and serve their communities.

Supportive, Close-Knit Community

Small class sizes and an involved school culture create strong connections among students, families, and teachers—helping every student feel known, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Proven Academic Excellence

Consistently among Utah’s top-ranked schools, Maeser pairs classical rigor with the Socratic method to deliver strong outcomes on state assessments and college-readiness indicators.

College & Life Ready

Clear writing, critical thinking, and thoughtful dialogue are woven across subjects—preparing graduates to thrive in college and to lead with purpose in their communities.

Athletics With Integrity

Robust 7–12 athletics build skill, teamwork, and character. Our scholar-athletes compete hard, represent Maeser with honor, and learn to win—and lose—with grace.
