Learn how NGs work and how they can be made up
What is an NG?
An NG (No Grade) means a student may not receive credit for a class due to attendance issues — until the missed time is properly made up.
Students are allowed up to 6 attendance events per class, per quarter without receiving an NG.
Per Class, Per Quarter, NGs are given out after
Any:
X = Unexcused Absence
S = SLU (Skipped class or Left Unexcused)
Each of these requires 2 make-up sessions during Advisory Friday.

More than 6:
E = Excused Absence
C = Late to class (10+ minutes)
T = Tardy (under 10 minutes)
Once a student reaches their 7th attendance event in a class, they receive an NG that will require attendance makeup session(s) on Friday.

Except:
M = Medical absence (with doctor’s note)
A = School Activity (e.g., field trip, sports, or approved school events)
V = Vacation with prior approval
Note on “V” absences: While these do not count toward NGs, students are still responsible for making up any missed work. Prior Approval Forms for vacation absences are available in the front office and should be submitted in advance.
How to make up an NG
To make up an NG, students must work directly with the teacher of the class where the NG was earned during Advisory Friday. They cannot attend another teacher’s class without admin approval.
Here’s how the process works:
- The student must speak with the teacher whose class they missed
- That teacher will decide one of the following:
- Have the student make up the NG with them directly, often during Advisory Friday
- Assign the student to Attendance School
- The teacher must sign off an NG slip
Attendance School
- Held in Room 225
- Supervised by Mrs. McDonough
- No phones, computers, or talking allowed
- Students must quietly complete schoolwork or read for the full session
