Message from Administration

Dear Maeser Community,

As Maeser grows, we are so excited to have you on this journey with us. We are pleased to invite you to join us at Winterfest on Thursday to yet again showcase our students and their learning. We also want you to browse our gallery for our future Maeser expansion and see how you can get involved! There will be parent and student Maeser swag as well for you to show your PRIDE!

At this time, we also want to announce that at the end of this school year, Mrs. Ellis will be taking an 18 month leave of absence to serve a church mission with her husband in BridgeTown, Barbados. Our team is already preparing for the restructure and transition, so there should be no interruptions or concerns. In addition to being our current Director, Mrs. Ellis is a founding member of Maeser, served on the Board of Directors and has four Maeser alumni, so you can bet she will be back and involved in some way in the future.

Winterfest

Winterfest is TONIGHT! Please plan to attend with your family to celebrate our students’ Winterim accomplishments.

WHEN: Thursday, January 19 from 4:30-7:00pm
WHERE: Maeser

Attendance is REQUIRED for all high school students (and RECOMMENDED for middle school students). Full dress is required at Winterfest.

Refreshments will be served to celebrate Karl G. Maeser’s birthday! 🥳

Winterfest Class Presentations

Our students are excited to share what they’ve been working on for the past three weeks. Here’s a sample of what you can expect:

The ACE The ACT class will be displaying their college portfolios as well as some posters that include hints and helps on each of the ACT sections. They have also been researching scholarships and will be displaying many of those.

The Game Design Theory class explored the history and enjoyment of board games. After playing countless varieties of games, we have now designed our own, which can be enjoyed by any willing to sit down and play.

The Healthy Eats class will be preparing finger foods for your tasting using skills learned over the past few weeks.

The Hispanic and Latino Culture Through Art class will be showing off some arts and crafts they have created over the course of Winterim.

Our Independent Study Winterim students will be meeting presenting their projects in the gym during Winterfest. Any and all are invited to come and take a look!

The Jewelry Making class will be displaying some of the adornments they have created the last couple weeks – as well as demonstrating the resin and wire ring making processes – in room #202.

The Landscapes of Utah class will showcase their best edited photographs from our 9 days of travel throughout Utah from Bear Lake to Zion National Park, complemented with written explanations of the sites, including their geology. See you in room 115!

Was there a violation of Shea Lyman’s 4th Amendment rights? Join the Mock Trial Intensive class for a full-blown court trial, complete with judges, attorneys, a bailiff and witnesses! Our students have worked so hard on their parts and would love your support – their courtroom is in room 205 on the second floor.

The Therapeutic Recreation class will be displaying pictures of their adventures and showing off projects that demonstrate what they learned about connection over the past three weeks.

How much water is that ten minute shower really costing? Come learn about water conservation with the Water Conversation class. See what it’s like to carry water for miles when your village has no water. Learn how to test your water to make sure it’s safe, and if it’s not, we have the answer. Join us to learn about the overuse of ground water and sinkholes, and desalination, and polluted rivers. You may even make the smallest donation to Africompassion, an NGO that builds wells, and take home a bathtub duck and bath crayon.

Used Uniform Exchange at Winterfest

The Uniform Committee is sponsoring a Used Uniform Exchange during Winterfest! We note many students have had a HUGE growth spurt over the past semester, so lengths of pants and skirts are getting shorter — so this is a GREAT time to replenish their uniform wardrobe in time for Semester 2.

DATE: Thursday, January 19, 2023
TIME: 4:30-7:00pm
LOCATION: Maeser Library

***Timpanogos Embroidery will also be at the sale to take orders for new Maeser hoodies and Lion sweatshirts!***

Volunteer Help Needed!

The used uniform exchange is a parent-sponsored and run opportunity to allow parents to resell their students’ uniforms and for parents to purchase needed uniforms in good condition at a low cost. We need your help to make these events happen! For more information and to sign up, please visit our SignUpGenius: Maeser Used Uniform Parent Swap.

To Sell Uniforms

  1. Launder all uniform items. Make sure there are no holes, stains, or excessive wear on the clothing.
  2. On an envelope clearly indicate:

  3. Safety pin the envelope to the uniform
  4. Drop off items to sell at Maeser today (Thursday, January 19) between 8:30-9:30am or 1:30-4:00pm. The uniform committee would appreciate an earlier drop-off so they have time to set up the sale.
    • The front office can not take items for the uniform exchange. Please drop off uniforms to be sold ONLY at the designated times.
  5. Sign the Uniform Exchange Waiver (available at drop-off)

PLEASE NOTE:
**The uniform committee reserves the right to turn away any uniform items that are not in good condition or that do not meet the Uniform Code.

**At the end of the sale, YOU are responsible to pick up any unsold items. You will be required to show a picture ID to pick up your envelopes with money from sold items.

**Maeser WILL NOT be taking donations of unsold uniform items.
