NEW THIS YEAR: Forum

Parents and students: You probably noticed a new class on your schedule this year. We’re excited to introduce Forum. Your Forum class will function somewhat like a homeroom class. You’ll meet with your Forum class once a week to watch The Pride (our weekly Print Communications webcast), hear important announcements and updates, and receive grade reports and other needed information. It’s another opportunity for you to connect with your classmates and a trusted adult who can help you out.

In ancient Rome, the Forum was the central gathering place where business was conducted, politicians mixed with their constituents, friends got together to catch up on the latest goings on, and just generally stay connected to what was happening in and around Rome. We’ve decided to borrow the term because we hope it will provide a convenient yet powerful way to stay connected to the Maeser community.

We’ll be sharing more information about Forum and some other exciting changes during the first few days of school. We look forward to seeing everyone!

THANK YOU Uniform Sale Volunteers!

A HUGE shout out to Saundra Farnsworth, Sarah Nielsen, and the Uniform Committee for putting on a very successful Uniform Exchange on Tuesday Aug 7. It takes an incredible amount of time and organization to put on the sale.

Not only did the sale benefit students and parents by offering both the sale and purchasing of uniforms, but we were able to raise $1500 from the sale of donated uniforms items. This money will go towards teacher development at Maeser. Thank you to all who donated uniforms items.

Thank you uniform committee for all your hard work!!!

Sports Announcements

Sports Eligibility

Eligibility Information for NEW Maeser High School Students

If you are new to Maeser Prep and are will be in 10th-12th grade, OR will be in 9th grade but have tried out for a sport at another Utah high school, AND you want to play high school sports, please contact Jared Norris at jared.norris@maeserprep.org to discuss eligibility requirements. The UHSAA (Utah High School Activities Association) implemented new eligibility requirements last year that could possibly impact your participation at the varsity level.

Sports & Activities Eligibility Policy for Fall Sports (Quarter 1)

Academic eligibility for high school students wanting to play a fall sport will be based on grades from the 4th term of 2017-18. This includes students who are transferring to Maeser Prep. The minimum requirement is a 2.0 with no Fs/NGs. Please note below that there will be changes to this policy starting 2nd term.

Sports & Activities Eligibility Policy Change Starting 2nd Term

Starting in Quarter 2 of the 2018-2019 school year, student eligibility for extra-curricular activities/sports (including non-UHSAA sports/activities) will be contingent upon grades from the previous term. The minimum GPA will be a 2.7 with no Fs/NGs. Students will also be expected to maintain a 2.7 during the term that the sport/activity is taking place. Please note below that there will be additional changes to this policy starting 3rd term.

Sports & Activities Eligibility Policy Change Starting 3rd Term

Starting Quarter 3, students who have an NG or failing grade from ANY previous high school terms will not be eligible until that F or NG is made up. For example, if a junior failed a freshman course he/she will be required to make up this course before participation in extracurricular activities. We recommend that any students who are affected by this policy take advantage of the fall semester to make up these classes! If the student has an NG, they can begin making those up in August when the front staff returns. If it is a failing grade that is the issue, please contact your student’s counselor to discuss options for making up the failed credit.

Pre-Tryout Requirements

Sports Medical Physicals (all grades)

All students (7th-12th grades) are required to have a physical completed before they can play a sport. Physicals are good for one year. If a student-athlete does not have one he/she will not be able to play. Please bring a copy of this form to your student’s physical exam for their doctor to fill out: UHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Form.

Online Registration for Fall High School Sports

High school students who participate in girls volleyball, girls soccer, girls tennis, boys golf, and cross-country must complete the online registration through Register My Athlete. However, please DO NOT start this until July 9th.The school is updating this site for Maeser Prep and it will not be ready until that time. If you have questions please contact Jared Norris at jared.norris@maeserprep.org.

Fees for Sports & Activities

All sports and activity fees are due BEFORE your student participates. We will no longer use the deposit/balance model we used last year for sports–everything will be due up front. This will most immediately affect those who plan to participate in fall sports and the high school and middle school Shakespeare competitions. Please plan accordingly so you have funds available to pay for these activities up front.

Tryouts for Middle School Sports

MS Boys Soccer Tryouts

Tryouts for MS Boys Soccer will be held this Monday-Tuesday, August 13-14, from 10-11:30am. (MS Girls Soccer will play in the spring.)

    1. Thanks for commenting, Kirsten! The Back to School Stomp is an informal dance for high school students (grades 9-12). Admission is $5 and uniforms are not required (though students’ street clothes need to be in good repair and meet school standards in length and appearance). This event is sponsored by our high school Student Council – if you have questions, you can contact the high school Student Council advisors: Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Cannon.
