Volunteer Help Needed: Teacher Training Lunch on Thursday, May 31

Still need to get volunteer hours in for this school year?

We are still in need of parent volunteers to help with one more teacher lunch. Students may be out for the summer, but our teachers are still in session as we prepare for next year. We will be having a work session on May 31st at Maeser. Our teachers will be in training all day and will need lunch and snacks. Finish out those volunteer hours by helping say thank you to the greatest group of teachers we know! If you can help, please see the signup to volunteer: Teacher Training Lunch on Thursday, May 31.

2018-19 Student Academic Eligibility for Sports

ATTENTION ALL 8th,9th,10th, and 11th GRADERS! If you are planning on participating in a high school sport during the fall, you must meet academic standards in order to be eligible. This means that you must have a 2.0 with NO Fs or NGs for the 4th term. That’s correct, this term’s grades are what will determine your eligibility for fall sports. If you have any Fs or NGs for this term (Quarter 4) you will be INELIGIBLE to play sports in the fall.

LAST Q4 NG Make-up Opportunities!

Do you have Quarter 4 NGs you need to make up so you can play sports in the fall?

We will have service opportunities available this week (Tuesday-Friday, May 29-June 1) from 9am-12pm. Each 20-minute service session makes up one tardy, one excused absence, or 1/2 unexcused absence.

Maeser Summer Reading Program

Students and families, make sure you check out Maeser’s Summer Reading program. This year, all students should read Fahrenheit 451. If students want to gain additional recognition by reading even more great literature, check out the official program for details and to see the book lists: 2018 Maeser Summer Reading Information.

Study The Iliad with Mr. Simmons This Summer

Every summer Mr. Simmons has an informal book club. Last summer we studied John Milton’s Paradise Lost. This summer, we’ll be studying Homer’s epic poem, The Iliad. Come read and discuss the most important piece of literature in the Western World (and Mr. Simmons’ favorite book!). We will be having book discussions about Homer’s Iliad every Thursday throughout the summer. Anyone can come!

What: Iliad book club
When: Thursdays from 11:00-12:00, beginning on June 7th!
Where: School library
Who: Anyone (middle school students, high school students, parents, friends)

Students can join the Google Classroom with this code: rdqb1ew

If you’re interested, we’ll be using this translation of Homer’s Iliad.

If you have questions, email Mr. Simmons (dustin.simmons@maeserprep.org).

Host Families Needed for Foreign Exchange Students in 2018-19

NACEL is currently accepting applications for volunteer families who are interested in hosting an exchange student in their home for the upcoming school year. Foreign exchange students make a great contribution to our school, our community, and to your family. Students are carefully selected and screened, and they come with their own health insurance and spending money; all that is required from you is a bed, board and welcome. If your family is interested in hosting an exchange student next year, please contact Wendy Waldes for more information: wendywaldes@gmail.com or 801-709-3583.
