Once Upon a High School

Your favorite fairy-tale characters have their world turned upside down as they get a fresh taste of reality! When a portal is opened to another world, Cinderella’s stepsisters take the leap and find themselves in a very real high school and the Woodsman sets out to be the hero who brings them home; meanwhile, gloom and doom is becoming reality for the fairy-tale characters back home. As harsh reality seeps into the fairy tales, characters are forced to break free of their patterns and learn to take charge of their own destiny. You’ll love this complex, rich tapestry of enchanted fun woven with a poignant, meaningful thread about what it means to be alive and in control of your own destiny.

Service Auction

If you have items or services you are willing to donate for the auction, please sign up by emailing service@maeserprep.org and include: the name of the donor, name of item or service, recommended starting price, and format of auction you would prefer (silent or open). While there are no guarantees for auction format or starting price, your recommendation is appreciated.

Please sign up by next Wednesday (3/21) and bring your item to the school on Thursday (the day before the assembly) if possible. An official list of items up for donation will be published next Thursday (3/22) on the door to Mr. Simmons’ office. A 10% down payment will be required during the assembly at time of purchase.

If you have any other questions, please contact service@maeserprep.org. Thanks!

Missing Glue

46 new bottles of white glue have gone missing in the Maeser art room. The original box was still on the storage shelf, but only 2 bottles out 48 were still inside when they were needed for the art class. Please keep your eyes open for them. They are the School Smart brand that cannot be purchased in stores; only online. If you have any information regarding their disappearance, please contact Mrs. Fosse or Mrs. Houghton.

Maeser Host Families Needed for Short-Term Thai Foreign Exchange Students

A group of Thai students will be visiting Orem for three weeks from April 9th-May 1st. While here, they will spend a few days visiting Maeser in addition to other classes and excursions in the area.

The Center for High School Global Alliances (CHSGA) is sponsoring the students’ trip, and they are looking for families willing to have one or two students stay with them during their time in Utah.

Students range in age from 12-16 and most of them are boys. The students will be gone during the day on weekdays, and they will be at home in the evenings and on weekends. Host families will drop off the students at the school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon on weekdays. Host families will go about their life as usual and include their visitors in family meals and activities as though they are a member of the family. Families hosting one student will receive $300 compensation and families hosting two students will receive $450 compensation; in addition to that, CHSGA will donate $100 to the school (to go towards to the gym fund) for each family from the school who hosts.

The students’ goal in visiting Utah is to experience American culture and to practice their English in preparation for their future in which an understanding of Western culture and solid English skills will be invaluable. The Thai students are generally quite friendly and open, and previous host families have had wonderful experiences learning about the Thai culture while sharing their own culture with their guests. If you’re interested in more details, comment here and Rachel Moises from CHSGA will contact you, or you can send her an email at rachel@highschoolalliances.org.

LAST DAY to Purchase Yearbooks at Regular Price Before Late-Order Price Increase: March 23

Friday, March 23 is the LAST DAY to purchase a yearbook at the regular $55 price! Beginning Saturday, March 24, yearbooks will increase to the $65 late-order price.

How do I purchase a yearbook for my student?

There are two ways to purchase yearbooks:

  • In person in the front office during office hours
  • Online at our RevTrak Web Store (choose “Maeser Prep Yearbook”)

Can I still purchase a video yearbook and/or year-end supplement?

Absolutely! If you’re buying your yearbook on RevTrak, you can add a video yearbook DVD ($5) and/or the year-end supplement ($2) at the same time. If you’ve already purchased your student’s yearbook and didn’t add a video yearbook or year-end supplement during your initial purchase, you can order them at the front desk during office hours.

What if I’m not sure if I’ve already purchased a yearbook?

Please email info@maeserprep.org or contact the front office to ask them to check your student’s fees before ordering a yearbook through RevTrak.

Maeser Community Read & Movie

As part of our classical education focus, we’d like to encourage our entire Maeser community to “learn continually” by joining us in reading A Wrinkle in Time during the month of March. We will be having a community book club night to discuss the principles of Truth, Honor, and Virtue found in the book on Wednesday, March 28th, at 6:30pm here at the school, followed up with a community movie night on Thursday, March 29th to watch the soon-to-be-released film (see the trailer here) at the Water Gardens movie theater. The Water Gardens has graciously agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds to the school from any Maeser families who see the movie anytime that day. Just say you’re there to see A Wrinkle in Time for Maeser!

If you need to purchase the book, this is the version we will be using. As an added bonus, if you purchase the book through Amazon’s “Smile” service, Amazon will donate a portion of the proceeds back to Maeser.
