Senior Higher Ed Day Field Trip

On Tuesday, October 3rd, our seniors will have an opportunity to take a field trip to PG High School for Higher Education Day. (Parents are invited.) We will leave the school just as lunch starts, so seniors need to bring a sack lunch to eat on the bus.

Middle School Math Team

The middle school math team will meet on Thursdays, starting on October 5th. We meet during lunch in Mrs. Plott’s room. Any student in 7th or 8th grade is invited to attend. As always, we will have pizza.

Model United Nations

Last call for MUN delegates! Your student still has time (but not much) to participate. Questions? Contact Mrs. Smith: allison.smith@maeserprep.org.

MS “Fly-In” Movie

All middle school students are invited to attend our Fly-In Movie showing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on Friday, October 6 from 1:30-3:30pm in the cafeteria. We are raising money for a school in Mali — the cost is $1.00 to attend and there will be extra treats available for purchase. Students are welcome to dress up as their favorite character from Harry Potter or just wear comfy clothes (but must still be in regular uniform during school that day) and bring their blankets and pillows. There will be a prize for the best decorated Nimbus 2000!

11th Grade PSAT and Senior Graduation Prep Seminar

On Wednesday, October 11, all Maeser juniors will be given the opportunity to take the PSAT — a pre-SAT test offered by the College Board. This is a free opportunity for our juniors to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition. PSAT Student Guides, which include a free practice test, were sent home with juniors this week.

In order to create a focused testing environment for our juniors, we have set aside this day for PSAT testing and our annual senior college application and graduation preparation seminar only. There will be NO SCHOOL on October 11 for students who are not in 11th or 12th grades. Please make other arrangements for your students in grades 7, 8, 9, and 10 on that day, as we will not have space or supervision available for them on our campus.

Driver Education Course

A driver education course will be held at Maeser Prep from October 30th-November 9th. The course will start at 6:00am each morning and will end by 7:50am. The cost is $230 and checks can be made out to Wright Driving School and given to the instructor on the first day of class. The cost covers 9 days of classroom instruction, 6 hours of observations, and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. All of the requirements for the course must be completed within one year from the start date. A sign-up sheet will be in the front office. Any questions can be directed to Mr. Norris: jared.norris@maeserprep.org.

Volunteer/Service Opportunities

Hygiene Kit Supply Drive

We’re working with a group called Helping Hands International to create hygiene kits to send to refugees in Lebanon and Jordan. We need donations of the items that make up the kits. No travel sizes, please — and any items with an expiration date should have an expiration date at least 1 year away.

Each Kit Contains:
1 Shampoo
1 Deodorant
1 Wash Cloth (these can be purchased in multi-packs, we’ll just split them up so each kit gets one)
1 Comb
1 Toothbrush
2 Bars of Soap
All put into a gallon Ziplock bag

Rubbermaid containers will be located in room 228 labeled for the various donated items. We will be assembling the kits during mentoring on the 13th, and then dropping them off to Helping Hands International. Donations should be dropped off by the morning of October 13th.

Breakfast & Snack Donations for Wednesday, October 11

We are in need of parent volunteers to help provide a continental breakfast & snacks for our juniors and seniors on Wednesday, October 11. The juniors will be taking PSAT and the seniors will be having a graduation prep seminar. For more information and to sign up: Breakfast & Snacks for PSAT Day/Senior Graduation Prep Seminar.

Volunteers Needed to Help with College Applications

Our counseling department is in need of a few volunteers and donations! Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, November 1 to help students with college applications. For more information and to sign up: Counseling Department Volunteers.

High School Winter Sports: Academic Eligibility

To be eligible, a student must have a minimum of a 2.0 average with no Fs/NGs. If a student has an NG it must be made up by the end of the 1st term.
